Hello all....looking for some advice on where to start.
I'm no stranger to coin-op - got into the hobby when I built my first MAME arcade machine and was fascinated by how it all worked.
Next, I bought a Seeburg SC-3 wall box, and wired it up to play with an iPOD - that was fun.
Next, I got an old Cavalier USS-8-64 Coke machine and put it in my workshop. replaced the coin mech, oiled it up, replaced the thermostat, and it works. Way cool too.
Next, I acquired an old Standard Metal Typer and rebuilt that, using a 12vDC power supply to trip the solenoid. Works good, but I still need to replace a couple keys that are a little illegible. Still cool.
Fast-forward to this weekend. A friend of a friend gave to me for FREE a Wurlitzer OMT 100-CD jukebox that he had bought in 1992 and used in his home gameroom. He said it started it's problems in 2003, and just never got it fixed, and it just sat there since then, and he just wanted it out since he was moving. (well, not ENTIRELY free - we had to get that 348lb beast out on a hand truck down 16 carpeted stairs from the second -floor - my body paid for it the next day.)
Got it home, hooked it up. Lights good, blubbers all good. Hear the standard noise when power hits the amp when you first apply power. The arm basically cycles back forth, never rotating 90 degrees over the carousel. It basically does this over and over until you turn the motor off. Credit button does nothing, CD display simply just shows a zero in the first digit. serial number is 3204xxxx, shows made in April 1992. CD-player is a CDM4-S.
I read through the internet - found the site on flippers.com, downloaded the FSM, read through it - watched a couple YouTube videos. K7 switch has definite play and doesn't seem to engage, so that is a definite replace. I put the SC&C into service mode, and hit the LT button - nothing, no change in the display at all - still shows 0 on the first digit. (see the below Youtube video)
Ive read the PDF on flippers.com about the run of bad transistors on the models made up until July 1992. Also the numerous site about the K7 switch breaking and needing replaced. Just wanted to pick everyone.s brains on what is the best place to start - start with the k7 switch, start with the SC&C, is that bad, etc? This is my first full size, as I've only messed with the Seeburg wall boxes before. Most of the FSM troubleshooting deals with error codes, but the simple 0 display and nothing else makes it a little hard to figure out where to start.
If you have any advice, please let me know.
