Hello,
My name is Peter. This is my first time using Jukebox Addicts. I need some help on my first purchased my first jukebox a Rowe AMI JAL-200. The person told me it was as is, but all there and original. Well come to find it is not. The tube amp and preamp have been replaced with a R-2179A stereo amp and a 403-06322 speaker output transformers. I need the speaker connection diagram for the left and right E1 - E6 outputs. The speakers are not original, but are not wired. Connecting the wrong ohmic (impedance) value can ruin the amp. I do have the manuals for the unit, but it is for the tube amp & preamp. I would like to check to see if these are at least working properly before I tackle the rest. I appreciate any help on this, and I would like to thank you in advance.
Thank you, Peter

Hi Peter, Do you have the service manual ?? If not, check the suppliers listed in our FAQs section, and get it-- If I'm not mistaken( and I well could be !--so check it !), the JAL model was sold with an option to have either the Solid State, or Tube type amp installed in it-- The manual should tell. I also think they (like Seeburg) used the same speakers, for both amps. Ron Rich

Hi Ron, Thank you for the reply. I do have the service manual and the parts manual. The service manual only shows the R-2620 stereo power amp and the R-2622 stereo control amplifier. It has the schematic for both too. I do not see any mention of solid state only the tube type. I would use what I have, but I'm not to sure about the speaker connections E1-E6 left/right. If I had a diagram of the p/n 403-06322 speaker output transformer unit that I have, than I could see how to connect it. The speakers in it have been changed as well. They may be fine to use, but I would like to connect them correctly. They are not wired in and have caps hanging off of them. I tried to do some research, and from what I found it shows this setup being used in an R81 jukebox, but I am not sure about that. Thank you, Peter

Hi Peter, Generally speaking on Rowe's-- E-1 is ground and E-6 is max output settings for INternal, speakers only. If outside (remote) speakers are used, the internals must be lowered to compensate. Also--Speaker polarity is reversed from channel to channel. I don't know the numbers for that amp--check the output transistors--keep em cool, and you should be (famous last words) OK --- Wire them up as per SM-- Ron Rich

Thank you Ron. I will give it a shot with a turn table connected to the inputs. Should the speakers be 4 or 8 ohms across E1 & E6? Also, I couldn't figure out what SM stands for. Time to call it quits it's getting late here lol have a good night and thank you again for your help!

Peter SM= Service Manual-- not sure what Rowe used for impedance ? Seeburg used 16 ohm thru the first of the transistor amps--then went to a 5 ohm system-- Ron Rich

Hello Peter,
Welcome to the group.
The R-2179A 64 watt amplifier works on 4 ohms minimum on its output, if you do have the correct output package for this amplifier then make sure that the speakers are wired so the impedance is never lower than 4 ohms, the maximum output from the output package is on the E6 , the common connection usually goes on E1 Right.

Hello Alan,
Thank you for the welcome! Sorry, I did not get back sooner but, I pulled out my shoulder at work, so I have been out of commission for a bit. Thank you for the information. I also did some research on that amp, and found this.
PHONO SPARS TOTAL L CH R CH SPKR VIOL PINK POWER LEAD LEAD ----- ---- ---- 1W E2 E2 4W E3 E3 16W E4 E4 28W E5 E5 64W E6 E6 -------------------- WALL RED BRN BOX E4 E4 -------------------- BLK TO E1 (COM) FOR ALL THE ABOVE
I finally was able to test the amp, but I also saw this, the remote volume/cancle control states CAUTION USE WITH R-3760 A, R-3812A & R-4359 A AMPLIFIERS ONLY. The amp that I have is a R-2179A. The amp also states to use a R-3758 B PRE-AMP ONLY USE L-6316B DRIVER ONLY. The unit I have is a 403-06322, so I don't know if these are ok to use as is. The only original speaker that I have is the low which I have not tested yet. The two mids that were replaced are 4 ohm 3 way with the low, mid and high in one. I do not have a high speaker. I only connected the two three ways speakers to the speaker control transformers. I used E1(-) and E6(+). The left channel plays perfectly, but the right has some distortion. I disconnected the driver fuses from the right side and put the balance all the way to the left. It sounds good. The jukebox is a JAL-200 there is no letter after the model number it is blank. The serial number is 675224. Once my shoulder is better I will be back to playing. Thank you again for you help with this. Have a great day!
