Hi everyone,
I have a Seeburg SCH1-4 that I'm trying to convert to MP3. I just found out it's missing the APU. I don't care if the coin mech works as I was planning on putting it in free play anyway, but will it work at all without the APU?
If it does require the APU, can I use an APU10 even though the sticker inside says APU11?
I don't have room (or money probably) for a jukebox, but I loved the idea of converting a wallbox to be a functioning juke, so I'm giving it a try. Thanks for any help and information you can give me.

Do you have the Service Manual -- if so look at the schematic--you should be ale to jump the credit established wires in the socket for the APU ! APU 10's are not interchangeable with 11's. See our FAQ's section and contact Mr. Grumpy, for info, and to purchase the conversion kit ( best-original up dated design-one made !) Ron Rich

Thanks Ron Rich, I'll have to find a service manual specific to the SCH1. All of them I've seen so far have been the SC1. I found some APU10's on ebay and found out they have a 12 pin plug, mine is 15 pins so you are correct it will not work.
I don't see a Mr. Grumpy in the member listing? How do I contact him?

Hi Scotk The same question was posted word for word on the wallbox2mp3 forum a few days ago . I posted a reply on the forum, the first 12 connections of the 15 pin plug are the same as a SC1-4. The lower 3 are audio, check out my reply on the forum for details of a diagram. Cheers Scudie

Hi Scotk Forgot to mention if you really want a 15 pin credit unit I will take a look through my spares, but you don't require it to make it work! Cheers Scudie

Hi Scudie, Plugs differ in their construction, and also the pin construction-- APU10 uses "Amp-loc" ("flat") pins, APU-11 uses "Mate n Lock" (round)type -- Ron Rich

Good morning Ron I knew that the twelve & fifteen pin plugs & sockets were physically different other than the obvious enough extra pins / terminals .I guess the names that you quoted are the manufacturers names. Cheers Scudie

Hi Scudie, Yes--both were A-MP products( now TEC). The first one is NLA ( unless you wish to purchase 10k of anything !--LOL) Mate n Loc is still produced. Ron Rich

Hi Folks I Had cause to have look through my spare parts this evening & as I thought I do have a 15 pin APU 11 56 ? credit unit if Scotk is interested. Unfortunately the cost of postage from the UK could prove prohibitive me thinks. Cheers Scudie

Hi Scudie,
Yes, I posted on both forums. I thought with as old as these boxes are it'd take a few weeks to find an answer. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect an answer that quickly, or for it to be so simple as looping two pins. I'm glad you mentioned the bottom 3 pins are audio as I plan to use the internal speakers. It would be cool to have the APU, but I think I'll pass... thanks for the offer to look through your spare parts though. I want it to be self contained so I would have to lose the coin mech or the APU to gain space to install the transformer and mp3 unit.
Ron Rich: Good to hear the "Mate n Lock" ones are still produced... if they are easy to come by that may be the easiest way to loop pins 1 and 7 without altering the wiring.
I have my transformer and some 2 amp fuses so I plan on powering it up for the first time tonight. Wanted to make sure everything was working before I ordered the MP3 unit.

Hi Scot In most cases l have fitted the transformer in the lower left where the coin box would normally be & fitted the MP3 unit where the slug rejector would normally be situated. Yes the volume buttons can be utilised after the volume control resistor board has been modified, there is an explanation of what has to be done on the other forum. Not sure which MP3 conversion kit you are thinking of purchasing, but I would have a good read on the wallbox2mp3 forum before spending your hard earned. Cheers Scudie

Scudie - It's worth pointing out that the volume control board only needs to be modified if the negative speaker outputs from the audio amp can not be connected together. I think it will work as-is with some of the amps available.
