What is the coin mech supposed to do? I believe I have the original national 4 coin model.
Seems you can only get credit if a coin drops into the cash bag since that is where the switches are. However, mine is holding quarters in the mechanism. When I press the coin return, I do get the quarter back, but I don't want it back, I want it to work the machine. The service manual doesn't say anything about a screw anywhere to reject quarters unless I missed something.
Does a "user manual" exist for dummy R81 questions or was it assumed knowledgeable technicians would service these machines?

Hello jd,
Remove your coin mechanism and clean all the surfaces of it where the coins pass through, you may have to adjust it with regards to the width of the coin accepted (there are adjustment screws that are locked in place with a locking nut. When adjust for thickness and size of each type of coin, try it out upright on a bench/table for operation.

Hi JD, Look at your unit-- look at some of the units for sale on eBay--see if you can figure out the make and model number-let me know-- I doubt you have an "original four coin" unit. You most likely have a three coin (NDQ ) unit, with a half dollar add on positioned on top of the NDQ unit. Rowe, like all juke makers, purchased coin equipment from one, or more of several makers. See our FAQ's section on "Coin units"-- Ron Rich

Ron, I did read your coin mech FAQ. I will try washing mine out. I did some HW. Looks like I have a TI-2. This ebay auction is nearly identical. My coin unit is also exactly as pictured in the R-81 service manual under the 2 possible 4 coin units (its the top one on the page). Not saying it is a 4 coin because I don't know much about anything but that's where the picture appears in the manual. My R81 has been sitting for 30 years so any changes done would have been 70s/80s upgrades. Even had the original 06/77 dated backup battery that had leaked just enough to "patina" the DC/DC board. www.ebay.com/itm/Rowe-AMI-TI-2-TI-2-Jukebox-Coin-Acceptor-Slug-Rejector-w-Switches/372795761684?hash=item56cc5be414:g:zTUAAOSw~gtdmZDz

Quick update: Behind the backplate, my coin mech has a sticker that says: 06*77*00 1-34-001

Hi JD, Yep--attza a 4 coin NRi unit- as I said in the FAQ's--not my favorite unit. Wash it, dry it--TOTALLY, and see what happens-- might work, if no one's attempted to "adjust it" in the last 40 + years--lol Ron Rich
