I have inherited a Rockola 1000 (490). I can only assume it has sat for some time. When powering it on the turntable moves very slow. The motor for the record cage does not move at all. I have completed all the lubrications and could use some guidance on checking the viability of the motors and or any lubrication points / maintenance for the motors.
Thank you for any help.

What did you "lubricate", how, and with what ? Did you clean the idler wheel, motor spindle, and turntable insides ? Didja READ, or stickie(red pinned above) on "Common RockOla 400 series models "-- It covers the "slow speed" TT. Ron Rich

This probably would not be the first thing to try, but I had the slow TT problem with my 496 when I bought it. I dressed the idler wheel with lacquer thinner and it stopped slipping. Sounds great now. See if the magazine motor CAN turn by seeing if you can turn it with the knurled piece at the bottom. This is awkward on the 490 because it doesn't have a removable back panel. Check if it has power after a selection is made or when in scan mode. If not, see the sticky notes on micro switches. See the other postings on motor oiling, too. Patrick

Where is the record gripper arm positioned? The record magazine is not supposed to turn, unless that griper is in home position, over the magazine. Ron Rich

Ron, I followed the lubrication guide on this site utilizing 20w oil. I did clean the TT. Odd thing is when the motor for the record cage is unplugged the TT moves even slower. The record gripper is over the TT. The motor for the gripper does not appear to work.
Patrick I appreciate the help as well. I will look into this as I am trying to understand how everything works.

That is "odd", since the TT motor runs on "line voltage" and the other ones run on 25 VDC, or 25 VAC ?Has "someone" messed with the idler wheel spring ? Are the three "white" rubber grommets still good ? Did you oil BOTH ends, of that motor ? Did you oil the TT shaft ? Ron Rich

The grommets are shot. I will need to replace them. Yes to oiling both ends of the motor. Upon further inspection either motor (cage or arm) is getting power. I assume the power comes from the Mech Board right in front of the TT after a coin is dropped and a selection is made. I will check the site for similar issues.
I was unable to attach a photo of the board. It has two relays. One is labeled latch relay and the other is reverse relay. Other printing indicates DC motors and micro switches.

If you were to read our FAQ's page, you would understand "attachments"-- If the grommets are shot, the motor speed is not changing, but the relationship between the idler, and the motor shaft is-- see the above stickies. Ron Rich
