I recently bought an R84 and all was well for the first few weeks. Now when I turn the machine on the record holder (?) spins around and clicks constantly but won't select or stop spinning. Is this a common fault and is it something I might be able to rectify without the need for an expensive repair? Clearly I don't know one part from another but any advice would be a great help. I am based in the north of England.

First-- Please read the "Hi Newbies" post in our FAQ's section. Second, about all I can tell you to try is what's listed above in the red-pinned sticky,"common Rowe Problems". HTH Ron Rich

My R-85 (very similar to R-84) book says under "Magazine rotates continuously" in the troubleshooting guide: - If "Mag motor" LED (on the mechanism control board) is off: check wiring to the magazine motor and the mechanism control board.
- If Mag motor LED is on, and Opt Sw Index LED is not flashing, and/or Opt Sw Home LED does not flash at record 99: check the optical switch, the wiring to the optical switch, and the mechanism control board.
- If the Mag motor LED is on and both the Optical switches are behaving normally: check the wiring from the Central Control Computer to the mechanism control board.
"Check wiring" means it could be a bad connection at one of the plugs; that is common, as Ron pointed out. If you rule that out, then it could be an issue with one of the components on the mechanism control board. I had issues with the triacs on my R-91's mech control board: jukeboxaddicts.proboards.com/thread/922/91-magazine-motor-buzz
