Ron, no, it is all clean, just grime from old oil and lube. I finished cleaning the top black surface which was under the record basket - it is not pretty but clean now. The fingers/pins may be stuck because of glass shards, as I found quite a few of them in the mechanism so far (top Wurlitzer glass was shattered).
I assume to get to the selector mechanism, I would have to suspend mechanism how it suspended in the cabinet, and dig from the bottom - i.e. remove junction box, then remove the selector? Thank you

Hi Eugen, I have never taken a 1900 that far apart, but your description sounds "right"--- Ron Rich

Hi Eugen, You should be able to just sit the mechanism on the floor and remove the top section so that you have the selector and junction box as one part and the upper moving parts as the other. But I don't have a 1900 manual!

Thank you both... I have the manual, it's just painful to read. Tried cleaning top black metal deck that goes under the record basket. Cleaned it with alcohol and water with some soap. Half the paint is missing under the dirt. Very disappointed

OK, the record basket is back in one piece out of 100+, and clean. I am not afraid to touch it anymore. I took the bottom cover off the junction box. Quite yucky inside - dirty oil dripping off plastic plunger in the middle.. 1) power switch for motor service is stuck in On position. I found this: www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/nkk-switches/M2011B2B1W01/1051127www.digikey.ca/en/products/detail/nkk-switches/M2011BB1W01/1050938I see only two wires going to the switch, so SPST switch should be ok? 2) I want to remove the selector mechanism along with junction box. 1900 service manual does not tell me much, but 3000 manual says just to remove 3 big bolts (and leave adjustment plates not touched around each bolt). Is there something I should be aware before pulling JB/selector off? Thank you

Eugen, How many wires are on the original switch ? Why don't you try "fixing" that switch ? A model 1900, and a 3000, are vastly different phonos? Ron Rich

Ron, I was just looking at the way the selector is mounted in both. It is 3 big bolts underneath.
I honestly never saw a switch like this - these 60s switches are like a sandwich, and nothing to open it unless you want to drill out the rivets that hold it together. It's a 2-wire 2-position switch, so SPST. It is called motor service switch, and wires that go to it are tiny like regular 20 AWG or so.

Eugen, You don't need to drill it-- just "fix it " ! As for what they are doing with it?? L@ k at the schematic -- Do you know how to "fix it" ? Ron Rich

Hi Eugen, I haven't got a 1900 manual so don't know how good or bad it is! But all the 104 selection mechs are basically the same. I have a pdf of the 2500 series which covers the 2504 - that would be a better comparison. I will message you a link.

Norman, thank you, I have 1900 and 3000 manuals. 3000 is more detailed and has a precaution of what not to touch when removing the selector pin wheel. I will remove it tonight hopefully and will report back.
Ron, I fixed a few modern switches, but this one does not look fixable. I also have no idea what is wrong with it, why it is stuck so badly - usually the only reason for that is the switch spring or slider inside broke off, then it is a toast, but I cannot prove this without destructively taking it apart.

Hi Eugen, I would caution you not to use a 3000 manual when working on a 1900-- they are almost two different phono's ! That warningdoes not apply to the 1900 model. On the switch-- a simple "fix" is a block of wood about 8-10 inches long. placed against the top of the "bat handle" and hit with a small hammer, several times. This will usually free up the switch-- Ron Rich

Thank you, Ron, will try the idea with the switch. I definitely use 1900 manual on a 1900 Just looking for more detailed info in other manuals when it is not available in 1900 one.

Eugen, If that does not work, most local ACE hardware stores, carry that style switch, or can order it -- Big box stores too-like HD should also have it. Ron Rich

Picked up new switch at a local electronics store over lunch... Disconnected selector assembly from upper gear assembly... Now need to disconnect selector pin assembly - I think it is just 4 more bolts.
