Hi Fred, My "guess" is someone sub'd the grease for the rubber-- I would remove it and carefully clean this out. As far as I can re-call, the rubber gets "slit", and placed over the needle holder-- Like said--I have never attempted to do this myself as my (now gone) friend, always did them for me-- Bike inner tube--perhaps ? might depend on thickness ? As for the spacing of the case--I done forgot that fact---duh--- ! Ron Rich

Well Hello All Had some problems on the home front and just got back to this yesterday. It seems Ron you were right the bike inner tube is to thick Although it worked well it dampened the sound quite a bit. Most of the highs were muted. I believe it is the case being to tight on the rubber (see picture with arrow) To prove my theory I took the case off and tried it without them. It sounded a lot better and most of the highs came back. I went with electricians tape I put three pieces together, Took some goo off and removed the adhesive. That's picture two. It works very well, I'm pretty close to happy with it. However I had a tracking problem. I believe it was the weight of the screw and nut. I went over to the hardware store looking thru everything I could think of I came across a aluminium split rivet. Now I know I'm splitting hairs here but the screw and nut weigh over 1 gram the old rivet was half a gram and split rivet is 3/4 of a gram I had to open the plastic hole a little. I spread the rivet over using a nut on the flat side in a pair of channel lock pliers it folded over tight giving all the clearance needed and I gained the ability to just adjust the springs slightly to over come the weight
