When I bought my MM-4, I know there was one incandescent bulb screwed into one of the 3 light sockets of the animation assembly. I'm sure it was 40 watt or greater. The other 2 sockets were empty. The specifications call for "global lamp red, 15w (2) and global lamp orange 15w". Each of these three circuits consists of a "resistor, wirewound, 100 ohms +/-5%, 1/2w", a ceramic disc capacitor that is unfortunately not specified anywhere in my official service manual but is marked as RMC JF.0022 10% Z5F, and an in-line flasher (riveted shut) that is also unspecified but marked as KULKA NO.241 120V 100W FLASHER.
I've tested all 3 resistors and they are with 5% of their ratings. I have a capacitance meter and want to check the capacitors but what is a JF? I can't seem to find reference to that unit of farad anywhere on the net. If I set my capacitance tester to the 20nF scale I get 1.85 as my reading on all. This leads me to believe that the caps may be out of tolerance because .0022 - 10% is .00198. If you move the decimal point to the right 3 places (which is a guess honestly), you would have 1.98 thus making the caps out of tolerance.
Does this make sense to anyone?
Also, if I need to diagnose the flashers does anyone have any tips other than drilling out the rivets and trying to put meter leads to the innards of the relay? It's 2 wires in 2 wires out by the way.
Thanks, Brian Wiles Wichita, Kansas
