Finally got my STD160 delivered and ran in to an issue I didn't notice before. It plays fine, selections work great right up until I use the reject button. After that the mechanism does it's own thing for a few minutes then eventually when you make a selection nothing happens. It just sits there. Power off the unit for 10 minutes and then it works again unless you use the reject button. I've read the troubleshooting on a unit not making a selection but non of what I read mentions the reject button as the cause. Anyone else ever see this?

////what you writ, can not happen ! Honest injun ! Check again--play a record, make another selection-- reject the first one while it's playing and watch the mechanism--I'll bet it detents (stops) at the second selection, picks it up and returns it to the rack without playing it--
BTW--what does "does it's own thing" mean (whatzit doing !??) and what "trouble shooting" thing, are you reading ? Ron Rich

I read several online troubleshooting guides for Seeburgs regarding selections not playing but nothing attributed to the reject button as well as the printed service manual that came with the system:
As for the steps here goes:
Enter 3-4 songs First record is selected and starts playing Reject button Record is returned Next selection is picked up Mechanism moves back and forth like it is scanning multiple times before returning the record Mechanism moves to 175 or 275 depending on what side had been picked up and returned and just sits there without continuing to next selection If left for about 10 minutes in that state it suddenly starts scanning again and then picks up a random record and plays it....not one from the original selections After it has paused on 175/275 you can no longer make selections. When you try to enter the numbers on the pad the first and second digits register but the third does not and you never hear the "click" for the third number
The only way I have been able to clear it was to power down for 10 minutes or more. After sitting with no power the system works fine again unless I use the reject button
In my world of troubleshooting computerized systems of 0s and 1s this would be a software/logic issue but I don't think this unit is new enough to have that kind of logic board or eprom on it. At least not that I've seen in the service manual. I'll be ordering your books soon and that should get me up to speed on these units even if not this specific problem.
Thanks for the help.

The "reject circuit" is independent of the selection system. The trip OFF the record is controlled by the relay in the amplifier, which is totally independent of anything else -- There is no "3rd Digit" lamp. Depending on the version DTP-1 installed, it will either send the Quadrobit info to the Decoder ( thru the buffer board) or, if info is erroneous,it will light the "ERROR-Re select" lamp. If that lamp is open, (this is the variance in the DTP-1's), on early DTP's, it will "hang-up" the selection system, on newer DTP's, it will ignore the open lamp. Easy to check--push an erroneous number--does the lamp light ? You may also have a bad WI SCR--what is the date on the DRD-1 ?
