I'm working on an R-88, a CCC model. When the juke is first turned on (or returned from having the service switch set to off), B-sides 228 through 299 will play exactly 28 slots shy of what you selected, only it plays the A-side. So 228 plays 100, 229 plays 101 ... 299 plays 171. When the wrong record plays, it does display the number of the record that's actually playing (for instance, you pick 299 and it plays 171, and 171 displays). Selecting 200 through 227 works just fine. A-sides all work fine.
If I clear the selection memory on the CCC, it presumably clears the garbage out of the selection memory and works normally, but only until the CCC is power-cycled. Then it goes back to its funky selections for B-sides.
I've seen erratic behavior like this before on other CCC models when the button-cell battery on the CCC board is dead or near-dead. This model, 6-08870-04, appears to have no backup battery that I can see on the board. Is there another place they hid them on R-88's?

Dave, If an un-modified CCC, there is a battery on that board-- If no battery and you have a piggy-back main chip PCB, there will be an empty space which has a marking for a battery-- didja look in the Service manual ?? Ron Rich

I don't have an R-88 book... I have been working off an R-91 book for the mechanical stuff. Most of the issues with this box have been dirty contacts and frozen motors and linkages (it had been stored in a machine shed) so that book was doing the trick.
I took another look at the board and found the battery. It's large and encased in black metal, not the button cell I was expecting. The markings are all worn off it too. Ron do you happen to have or know the specs for this cell? Is it a rechargeable?

Hi Dave, The parts section of the R-91 book should have the battery info-- I think both use the same CCC ? Ron Rich

From the page above, R84-88 all use a variant of the same CCC. I checked my R85 field service manual and of course, it does not include schematics for the PC boards, including the CCC. It only has wiring diagrams for the juke as a whole. However, I found this: manualzz.com/doc/25911711/repairing-rowe-ami-r84---r88In that manual there is a clear picture of the battery with the markings intact: a 2.4V 100mAh NiCad. It also had this advice on replacement, which is exactly what I'm going to do: "You can replace it with a dual AAA battery holder, double-side foam tape and new rechargeable nickel-metal hydride AAA batteries."
