Brothers in arms, I purchased a non working TI-1 (see below). I started by cleaning the Selection Letter and Number contacts. Also the Search Unit Assembly pins and so on. When selecting; B1 D1 F1 H1 K1 M1 and so on, every other letter and a number 1, it spins the magazine and does not pick up the associated record. Selecting any other number with these letters works as expected. When selecting; A1 C1 E1 G1 L1 N1 and so on it works as expected. I can't seem to get my head around this one to figure where the issue lies. Tom

Tom, That indicates an "open" on the B sides of the selections-- A jumper in the key board-- a "bad" coil on the B side-- a relay ?? RTFM, follow the sequence of operation for the B sides of the records-- Ron Rich

I had a similar problem on my TI-1. I thoroughly cleaned all the contacts on the keyboard and it was still doing it. Then I found that the "female" side of one of the contacts on the A-button, one that starts the loop to all the other letter buttons, was too far splayed out. I say female for lack of a better term; I call the female contact the one with two metal contacts that the single blade contact rides inside of. Anyway, it wasn't making contact with the blade. I carefully squeezed the female contacts closed a bit more with some needle-nose pliers and all the selections started working.

I disassemble the entire thing and flipped it over to gain access to the contacts. I used solvent and lots of Q-tips. That got it clean from all the gumminess.
What driving me nuts is the hum from the Selector Latch Bar Solenoid. I need to find the mounting grommets for that thing. I think the ID is 3/16" and the OD is 5/16".
The turntable motor is transferring its noise to the amp. I oiled the motor and that helped. Maybe those grommets could use a change as well. This unit has the 50 watt tube amp, R-4353A.
