Pete, IF, genuine, it WILL say "Shure" ( or older ones said "Rowe") right on it --if not--it's a knock-off, and I suspect a "Phunny brand" item--which, IMHO, I find fair to poor-- READ our of topic "Scams" posts ! Ron Rich

My cart is a M44Mr and it has the word Sure stamped on it, the stylist does not say Sure but Sure does not make a replacement anymore,If i get lucky i may find a NOS somewhere. Needles4jukebox is one of the listed suppliers so i thought they would have at lease as best as i can get aftermarket.

Hi Pete, Probably true--(Didja AXK, as it says to do, in the off topic section ? Also states that "---listings are listings--NOT, recommendations---", in the first section???)-- but that does not mean the needle you get is any good ! I dono which "brand" of these, needles sells, but like all aftermarket stuff--Quality assurance is seemingly poor- that's why I ave up as an "authorized", "Phunnie brand", needle seller, many moons ago ! I read your scam post and realize how difficult it would be to get genuine parts. In my case the sound is pretty good i just have that issue with using the stereo selector. The mono sounds very good but i hate a mystery that seems unsolvable. pete

Hi Pete, Have you checked that the mute relay is functioning correctly? It has two changeover contacts (one per channel) and they are in circuit immediately before the balance control pot.. Otherwise I think that the only way to solve this is to do a proper technical investigation - inject a signal at the front end and trace it through the amplifier. And for that, the amplifier schematic is a must! I doubt that the cartridge/stylus is the problem.
Norman.

I have an update, this may help or make things worse, I took a very close lock at the connections to the cart, I noticed the the white wire (left feed) was barely connected. Painstakingly i re soldered the white wire to the cart. I started the unit and found that now the issue is when the switch is in mono, i switched to stereo and it sounded great but within about 30 seconds the speaker overload tripped ( or at least i think it was the overload) I checked fuses , all ok and waited 5 minutes, restarted unit and selected a record, sound played again , i touched the stereo/mono switch and it tripped again. Not sure whats going on. I made sure all cart wiring is as per schematics and made sure they were separated. I removed amp to look at the switch, unfortunately my manual from Victory Glass has not arrived yet so i can not confirm someone has changed the wiring to the switch. pete

Hi Pete, The cart wiring should not "trip the O'load"-- What are the outputs set at, -do you have the original proper speakers, connected properly, and is there, or is there not anything else connected to the outputs ? Ron Rich

P.S. Are you switching that switch with power on, or off ? Have you used a good cleaner on that switch ? Didja check the mute relay, as Norman suggested above ? Ron Rich

Hi Ron i removed the cart and i see now the left coil is open, Im not sure but i think the cart has had a very poor connection to the left side for quite a while, the first time i inspected before reattaching the white, i found it was only connected by a strand, and these strands are very small. Handling it may have damaged it, reattaching and using it may have damaged it, or it was faulty before i started. One thing i am pretty sure of left side never had much of a signal. I will have to get another cart. So the unit never went into overload, the cart failed. pete

Pete, I hope you did not attempt to solder directly to the cart- ALWAYS use a "slide-on connector" on all carts !! Ron Rich

I soldered on to the slide on connector, not the cart pin. I tried to get a replacement cart but only found an aftermarket AT3600 from Needles4jukebox John Durfee. Not sure if the Shure cart i have can be repaired. pete
