Hello, Thank you for allowing me. I am still a novice at electronics and pretty slow to learn but willing as. I have an issue with Amp 52280-A with only one channel working and I want to replace Caps 71&72 (3000 50v) On my Diagram (hope to attach) Red/White wire goes + on C71 neg to Black earth wire which goes to +on C72 and neg to Blue wire which does go to -32 on rectifier so assume thats correct. Would just like confirmation from someone more skilled. I have miss placed my photo's and pretty sure it was neg neg on caps to black earth. Thanks in advance "great site for help" have learnt heaps and fixed all other probs the 488 had, Cheers Carl PS Can't attach as site has reached its limits hopefully someone has wiring dia and can confirm for me.

Hi Carl, These are the resevoir capacitors for the +32 and -32 VDC which is why one capacitor is connected one way round and one the other way. By all means replace them but I cannot see that curing your problem. The 52280-A amplifier was fitted to quite a few models and there will be a number of threads already on the forum that might help you.
Norman.

Hi Norman, "WHY ? Can't the English learn to speak ? "--- "reservoir" caps ? On this side of the pond, we say that these are "filter caps" LOL --and I too, doubt that his problem is in those caps --Ron Rich

Hey Ron, you're correct and I also spelled it incorrectly! We can also call them filter caps, on another day I could easily have said filter caps. I think the term "reservoir" originated from my college days many moons ago, I must have been thinking in electronic theory mode. I won't take offence at you calling me English! But that's maybe a bit like calling Carl an Aussie.

Hi Norman, My "spell checker" caught the incorrect spelling-- I did not realize that calling anyone "English" (nor "Aussie"), was any type of an insult ! Certainly, I meant no insult to either of you ! My Grandmother was from England, and used that term constantly. One of her favorite "sayings" was that George B Shaw's "semi quote" I used-- Ron Rich

Hi Ron, But I'm not from England which is how I'm not English, Aberdeen is in Scotland. The UK is a bit of a mess at the moment and for many Irish, Welsh and Scots, being referred to as English can be taken as quite an insult - but let's not go there. And to paraphrase your president, we could call Carl "that chap from down under" but he's from New Zealand so probably might not appreciate being referred to as an Aussie! Geography over, back to jukeboxes!
Norman.

Hi Norman, OK-- NOW--I understand--and I did know Aberdeen is in Scotland--just "forgot it" (senior moment?) when I wrote that--I just changed your profile to show "Scotland" in it ! Ron Rich

Thanks to all. Yes I understand the one channel error is not related to the "filter caps" and will revisit that soon as "pec 8". Thank you for plus minus info Norman, was what I was after. My brother years ago said "he knows enough about car wiring to leave it alone" I am not sure if I appreciate the tech info or the light hearted banter between senior members.( and by senior I mean knowledge more than age). I as a kiwi dont mind being from down under but not always keen to be associated with Aussies (but to have lots of good friends and family that are) Thanks again for info and will try and sort adding pic's etc for next threads Carl

Hello Ron, No apology needed was not taken as offensive. I will apologise in advance in case my "no filters" type of personality slips out. I dont really get the need to be politically correct but always try and use it in public. I have read lots of the faqs etc but they all seem to blurr together sadly so please do be "on my case if doing things rong" it wont be on purpose and please excuse bad grammar as most kiwi(the ones I associate with) apparently not only miss pronounce but spell badly. I may one day do a introduction. but are not a believe in putting myself out there. And like to do things right which is hard for me publicly. This is my first time conversing in a plublic forum. Usually I just gather info for repairs.
Cheers Carl
