the 1448 and 1454 has a resistor in the control box mine is old and fallen apart, unable to tell watt it's value is. The schematic shows no resistors are in the control box. Is the resistor an add on, and is it needed? If so what is the value suppose to be? Thanks

Are you sure it's a resistor? Like you say schematic and manual only show capacitors.
Can you show a photo?

Haven't figured out how to attach pictures. What I think is a resistor is a little over an inch log is flat and a brick color, very porous, and brittle. It has a internal wire winding. One leg is attached to the #1 soldering lug of the 8 prong socket the other leg is soldered to a set of contacts located on the Cancel Relay (DC).
