Hi everyone, I've got an opportunity to rescue an abandoned LS1 project for next to nothing, as it's in pretty bad shape cosmetically - but it appears to be complete. The casework is bad enough that I don't think it's a viable project in itself, but it does look to be in good shape mechanically. What I want to know is - How different are the internals between this model and the HLS-1 Hideaway system? Converting the mechanical/electrical to be compatible with the SC1 Wallbox and then fabricating a simple enclosure like the hideaway box would solve the problem with the casework and get me the Consolette variant I'm really after - providing it's possible. My read of the schematics and parts books I've been able to find doesn't seem very clear on what the differences are, hoping someone familiar can chime in. The owner is motivated to dump the unit and I don't see a bright future for it... so any input is appreciated!

I don't see any particular issues doing what you propose other than you might need to procure a stepper which would have been an optional extra on the LS1. After all, a wallbox would have operated with the LS1 if it had a stepper. You might be very lucky and the LS1 is already fitted with a stepper! Google "Seeburg SSU4" and you should see waht the stepper looks like.

Norman Hey Norman, I got a walkaround video from the seller that shows what looks very much like the stepper without the contact box. It's mounted in the bottom right side of the cabinet. The unit has been disassembled so it's possible it's kicking around somewhere but I didn't see it in the pile and I haven't viewed the machine in person yet. Assuming the unit has a complete stepper in it, other than the wallbox itself and cable obviously, what else does one need to do - simply plug it into the stepper?

I'm pretty sure that the unit in your picture is not the stepper, maybe the income totaliser (the picture is quite small)? In simple terms, in the jukebox the electric selector (pushbuttons) connects directly to the memory unit (tormat). There is a Molex plug/socket midway in that cable; when a stepper is in use, the Molex plug/sockets are disconnected and both plug into the stepper. In the installation that you're planning, you wouldn't need the pushbuttons unit.

Hey Norman, If I'm tracking you, the cable from the pushbutton would be the black one drooping down into the middle of the frame in this photo (another video still of the machine lying on its back, and the top of the machine is to the left). I think it's just unplugged from the tormat but it's hard to tell. The box at top center looks to be the amplifier TSA6. Would anyone happen to know whereabouts in the cabinet the SSU4 stepper is mounted? I've identified the other box as the SCC7 controller based on my read of the LS1 manual. I can't find a component location diagram of the optional stepper through my scan of the pages. Thanks!

Hey Armand, Thanks for weighing in on this, I appreciate it! The owner of the LS1 decided to keep it and give it another crack at getting it working, so I never found out if it had a stepper installed (I doubt it). A careful study of the service manual suggested it is at the bottom front of the cabinet, and this area looked empty in the walkaround video to me. I am however talking with a chap who has a HLS-1 with one SC-1 consolette in working condition - we may be too far apart on price, but we're still talking. Thanks for the link to your YouTube channel, I'll check it out!

the LS1 credit unit was junk save the cable which I used to connect the KD stepper. 3 relays in the bud-box first latch the keyboard, the second makes the selection the third is the time out. the octal socket in the 24VAC remote power transformer mounting plate, was replaced with a 12 pin to accommodate the [more or less] stock key board wiring
