The Select-O-Matic ‘100’ from my Seeburg U100 has a problem which has me stumped. The carriage moving the pickup arm appears to be jammed and I have no idea why. The result is that a record is picked up but is then immediately rejected. The counter operates. The picture shows the carriage which won’t move from left to right, it gets about a quarter of the way and then something stops it going any further. I am hoping there may be a simple solution and if anyone can shed any light on this I’d be really grateful.

These are my ideas: - Most likely the clutch and levers are still gummed up. hence the carriage does not reach the playing positin and returns the record immediatley - The clutch is damaged and cannot operate well enough for each needed movement - Does U100 use a microswitch for the cut-off of the record? If so it might be working wrong or being defective.
About the B-side position of the tonearm: Are you sure the jukebox selects and finds B-sides at all?

Dear blindmosse, I think the sticky gummed up mechanism causes most of your faults. At least from the photo it looks like your mechansim will need a good cleaning. To be honest, I cannot tell you how to do this best. I never did it by myself.
You might want to spend some time in reading and learning more about Seeburg mechanisms. The service manual for U100 is helpful in general. And the book "Seeburg Mechanism Guide" by Ron Rich (unfortunatley passed away in 2022, he's still be missed) will tell a lot. If in USA you can purchase it at www.alwaysjukin.com. Unfortunately they don't give a description of the book. So here it is: Seeburg Mechanism Guide This book by Ron Rich, a former Seeburg engineer (✝7/2022), is a step-by-step description of the mechanical and electrical operation of the Seeburg mechanisms from the B-model in 1950 to the SMC-3 in 1986. Next to schematics and a lubrication chart it contains 32 illustrations, a detailed troubleshooting guide and adjustments as well as many experiences regarding topics like washing the mech, removing the clutch, sequences of operation, how to transport your jukebox and a lot more.

Maybe some other user here can give some advise too.

Hi Hildegard
That's really useful, thank you. I'll see if my son can get the book next time he's in the States. In the meantime back to headscratching!

Where are you located? In Europe we can supply the book as well. But we usually recommend to puchase books in US when one lives there. Hildegard
