What does connecting TB3100 terminal 1 and 2 (trip relay & read load) instead of 2 & 3 (read load and read source) together do? Does that tell me that the detent switch is set correctly or is that somehow getting bypassed?

Not supposed to be done --shorts relay coil to load ?? Might cause mechanism to Detent ? Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. I was going through Tony's Black Box book and that was a test of his. My machine will trip at every slot when jumped like that but will not trip with a battery test. I've gone through every adjustment in the service manual as well as the tests you suggest in your guides and I can not make this unit pull records. I think I spent 5 hours realigning the rack, tormat, and contact blocks this weekend. I even swapped out the detent switch. I'm leaning towards a DRD issue but that may be beyond my ability without a scope.
I'll go back and check the detent again.

You are NOT checking either the Detent switch ( other then to tell if it truly "makes" ) or the sense out-put. What that accomplishes is to supply a ground to the Detent relay at every space. If you have my "MicroLog Trouble Shooting Guide", See the DCC service notes, then do procedure #3. That should "pinpoint" the problem area. Ron Rich

Finally got back out in the garage to check on it, the heat here in the valley has been awful. But it looks like someone tried to do the code-e mod and put it on the wrong part of q3100. Before I go any further I thought I'd show you and see if this is supposed to be this way. It's soldered to the base not the collector. If this is wrong what else could it have damaged? This unit never selected before I got a hold of it.

That 10 K is supposed to be on the base of the reset transistor ?? Looks like a actory done mod to me Ron Rich

Do you recommend adding the 10k to the emitter of q3100 as well? You mentioned in the Microlog guide and had I assumed that's what someone had tried to do here. If so, do you add it to the trace, similar to how the one in the picture was done, or do you go right to the - side of the C3108 solder joint? I have four of these code D boards sitting here and only this one has that added 10k on the base. Do they need upgraded as well?

That resistor, as shown on the page 15, schematic, was added solely as an anti-cheat item. It is between the E-B of the transistor. The guide is somewhat un clear as it says "ground"--it should have read "negative side of the cap, c-3107", not "ground". I see no added "trace" nor have I ever an added one ? Ron Rich
