So I cobbled up one of those homemade free play plugs for my model G and it works perfectly. I decided to try it in a model R and it will only take one selection. If I turn off the jukebox after the record plays it will work for one selection again. All the credit paddles are in the "no credit" position, I can't figure out why this is happening? Please enlighten me. Thanks, Mauro

In case there is any confusion as to the free play plug I'm speaking of, here is a crude schematic that shows what I built.
-PIN PLUG 8-PIN SOCKET > > 1 <--------------------------< 1 - Short 1 and 6 together > 6 <--------------------------< 6 > > 2 <--------------------------< 2 > 3 <--------------------------< 3 > 4 <--------------------------< 4 > 5 <--------------------------< 5 > 7 <----------------|<|-------< 7 <- Insert silicon diode (1N4007, etc.) > 8 <--------------------------< 8 >

Well, that diagram didn't work so I'll explain. Place a diode between pin 7's of plug and socket. Jump pin 1 to pin 6 Connect all other pins directly, 1 to 1 2 to 2 3 to 3 4 to 4 5 to 5 6 to 6 8 to 8

Mauro,I don't understand what the diode is for?--that's the 25VDC line ? I don't use that system-- I always purchase an electronic, "free play adaptor" -- been doing that for over 35 years--NEVER had one fail, NEVER had a solenoid go up in flames-- Ron Rich

Ron, Like you, I have a selective memory. I seem to recall something about the select light in the center of the keyboard casting, without the diode you must remove those bulbs but with the diode they can remain. Not 100% sure but that's what I remember. This adapter works identically to commercial ones except there is no timer circuit. Mauro

Hi Mauro, Yep--selective memory says you iz correct ! IMHO the timer is MOST important-- just don't want the 50-60-70 year old "intermittent duty" solenoid to have ANY excuses, to burn down the phonograph, let alone a building ! Worth my piece of mind ! Ron Rich

Ron, In my home jukeboxes I use the same units you do, I just built a couple of these adapters for the garage when I'm trouble shooting. Sure beats looking for credit buttons to push or trying to find coins that work. Mauro
