I'm back on the model 530 amplifier and have completed the recap and replacing out of spec resistors, I tried the amp for a minute but no sound, might have been a bad connection in my tone arm wire though. I did however compare resistance readings with a working model 532 amplifier and I'm a bit worried. Resistance to ground from pin 4 of 6L6 (grid I believe) is 0! I disconnected and checked the standee resistor and it measures fine, I disconnected cap 34A and it tests fine, I checked all the wiring for a short to ground and did not find one. The 532, which is working measures resistance in the 300K-400K range. Also checked resistance from pin 8 of 5U4 to ground and I get about 1600 ohms which is the value of the section of same resistor to the grid of 6L6's. The working 532 amp again shows high resistance. I'm worried about trying it out before I figure out what's going on. All voltages from T1 and T2 are present so I imagine the power transformer is fine. Could someone who recognizes this problem help shed some light, as although it seems like a simple circuit, I'm stumped. Thank you, Mauro

Hi Mauro, I don't do tube amps, but a WAG, is--the 6L6 itself has an internal short ?? Ron Rich

Hi Ron, I appreciate the response and it totally makes sense but I should have mentioned I'm doing this testing without tubes installed. I would think that from screen to ground there should be at least 9K ohms of resistance, the value of the standee resistor section directly connected to the screens of 6L6's (pin 4) but I have short to ground. I'll continue troubleshooting over the next couple of days but can't see anything I haven't tried yet. Thanks!

Ron, Thanks for the tip, I cleaned all sockets and while doing so found 2 pins making contact on the mechanism plug socket, now the short is gone but I still have no sound and the 2 part resistor 69A is still getting awfully hot. Will follow the signal path tonight and see what I can find, may have to start a new thread! Thanks again, Mauro
