I don't hear anything "abnormal" to a WurliTzer, on this vid., so I'd hafta guess yours is "normal". Don't worry--be happy !!

Thanks Ron.
Just as a follow up on the ticking/creaking noise, I loosely threaded the mech hold down bolts back into the base plate, and the ticking noise is gone. So those must have been "rattling" when the motor reverses.

OK--Yep--you have excellent ears-- I now know what you heard-as I do recall hearing it--itz the spring squeaking ! Yep ! normal on WurliTzers--remove the hold down boltz --enjoy you music, with the lid closed, so you can't hear the squeak ! Ron Rich
