This is Paul Hesson in southern Ohio. I just purchased a Wurlitzer 1450, serial number 27873, that is original and complete for $500.
The previous owner plugged it in and all the lights came on and I could hear a faint hum from the amp through the speaker. The turntable was in the up position through a record platter and did not move when the reject button was pressed. He had it for 30 years and said it was playing when he stored it 13 years ago. There is a "spiderweb" crack in the right side of the dome. There are faint marks throughout the dome. The right pillar plastic has a long crack that was filled with glue or filler to stabilize it. He did not have a key and the rear door is locked closed and the front door locked open. I have ordered a new key. The speaker was replaced in the 70's and is dry rotted but the original speaker is in the floor of the cabinet ready to be refurbished. It came with the original manual. When I got it home the power cord insulation decentigrated.
I'd like to refurbish it and keep it as original as possible. I plan to open the cabinet when the key arrives, give her a good cleaning, replace the power cord, plug it in and see where I stand. I will keep you posted
There are many different metals and finishes on the jukebox. I am looking for the rite cleaner for the rite part, i.e. the amp cover, grill, dome trim pieces, front piping, record selector trim, record platters, etc. Could someone with some experience make some recommendations?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!
