I figured while the mech was out of the box and getting a cleaning, I would change the bushings in the turntable. There is a fair amount of play in the table and I can see from the backside these bushings are pretty torn up. I have a spare set of the stepped bushings from some parts I bought a while back.
I removed the 2 long screws, promptly dropped and retrieved the retainer ‘nuts’, then completely failed in removing the turntable. This thing is totally seized.
How much ‘persuasion’ can I give to get this off??? Some liquid wrench from behind? Best I can do for heat is a hair dryer unfortunately. Small hammer??? Any secrets?? Saw one video on web but was not persuaded.
Also is it necessary to remove the stripper plate to get to these?? I’ve read conflicting things on the interwebs.
Thanks Andy

Hi Andy, Been working on Seeburgs over 50 years now--never have seen a bad brass bearing in one ? I have changed many a gear set in them--always have removed the stripper plate ( never the record rack to do this job !) --Yes takes some "persuasion"--don't bend the shaft ! "Stepped bushings " ?? These were "line reamed". Ron Rich

Ron Rich - I think we're talking about different items - perhaps I used incorrect terminology, let me grab my parts manual......nope, the pieces I'm talking about replacing definitely called "Drive Bushing". I'm talking about the little rubber bushings that sit on the arms of the Drive Arm then in to the back of the turntable. Was hoping I could move the turntable just far enough forward to remove them without having to remove the stripper plate. I called them 'stepped' as they have a big end and a little end.

Hi Andy, I'm sorry--yes, I was thinking of the brass bearings the shaft rides on-- I have had some eye surgery last week and still don't see to well--besides I think I lost a little more of what limited brain power, I had, when thy put me under-- Yes--you can "persuade", the turn table just enough to replace the rubber turntable drive bushings withOUT removing the stripper plate. See the sticky above ! Ron Rich

Thanks again for the assist Ron Rich ! It took a few jolts of Liquid Wrench, a bunch of patience and a block of maple and a hammer to tap with from behind to 'persuade' the turntable off. I'm willing to bet the rubber bushings in this have NEVER been changed. the ones that came out were crumbly in some spots, mushy in other and pieces stuck to the drive arm. Yuck. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

Hi Andy, You are welcome--main thing to do is remove ANY/Al,l Oil, from the TT prior to installing new rubber-- I think I have only needed to eo that about 10 times in my life ? Ron Rich
