read somewhere that the seeburg 161 box's are more of rare one, with only 2000 produced. I didn't believe that, is it true? 2000, when compared to how many seeburgs are out in the world, is NOT a lot at all! anybody have any knowledge to how many 161's were actually made? i'd like to buy one and am in the market, just came across this info in my searching...
thanks kevin

Hi Kevin, Don't believe anything you read about production of any "Seeburg" phonograph. Seeburg went to great lengths, to avoid anyone finding out anything about this subject--especially their "bankers" !! All one can say was that there were three models produced that year. The 101, 161,and 201. I think they used sequencing blocks, of serial numbers for that year, but, am not sure, as like I said--they "hid stuff" -- From what I heard, the 160 selection, outsold the other two by a large margin, and that's why the 200 selection model ceased to exist, after that year (58).
