Hello.....I recently acquired two Rockola Techna 480's. I got one working rather easily from parts off the second machine. It worked beautifully for a year and a half, then all of the sudden would play a different song than the one that was selected. I have tried resetting the board as the manual states, but it doesn't appear to have worked. Would any of you juke box pros have any suggestions for me??
Thanks in advance!
Chad

Hi Chad, Did you read the "sticky" at the top of this section on RockOla's with computers ? After that my guess would be that the problem is most likely in the read-out optics-- you did not give enough info, for any other thoughts -- is it consistently incorrect in the same fashion, or is the problem "random" ? Do you have the Service Manual PACKAGE ? Ron Rich

Hello Ron, thanks for responding. I hope I can give you more correct info. The Rockola is consistently choosing the wrong selection. I do have a service manual for the machine. This happened all of the sudden, which leads me to believe its a board issue, but I am not sure. Hope this helps understanding my situation. Any help will be greatly appreciated! I do have a parts machine....if there is something I can swap from it to try (assuming its there), let me know. Chad

Chad, I don't know enough about that model to do anything but guess-- Does it always err in the same way--say every time you press a 5, on the keyboard you get another (same) number? Ron Rich

I find on these that the plastic stub flange on the encoder disc for the magazine opto is very prone to cracking allowing the encoder to move out of calibration. I put a thick cable tie around the stub to pull it back together. Might that be your problem? Norman.

Hi Norman, Is that a black "plastic" A-MP brand, "flat style" plug ? RockOla used a lot of them, on many models--always prone to the plastic splitting. I replace them all when that happens with the same size Molex (off white) plug. Ron Rich

Yes Ron, it consistently plays the same 'wrong' selection. For example, if I choose 111 it may play 169. It will do that over and over. Then, if I chose 112 it may play 179. Seems like there is some sort of pattern, but I am not sure what or why.
Norman....I will have to look for the plastic plug and check that. Thanks!

Chad, Just my guess---the computer chip is "dirty"--Is there a total re-boot procedure for that unit ? Ron Rich

What I'm referring to is the plastic stub of the encoder disc which push fits (interference fit?) on to the magazine shaft. It cracks allowing play in the encoder disc which can then move affecting the calibration. But your errors look too great for this to be the problem. Page 23 of the manual shows the positioning of the encoder disc. There doesn't even look like a pattern - 111 and 112 are ten records apart but 169 and 179 are adjacent in the magazine! Norman
