I've been putting back together a SPS160. I finally got it making selections but it's doing something I haven't seen. If I select 279 it pulls the record. If I select 179 the mech moves to position at shuts off as if you pushed the mech stop button. I can hit mech start and it then continues scanning but doesn't pull the record until the next pass. So far I've only seen this on that end of the rack. Could this be a timing issue with the reverse switch?

Stephen, Nope--It's a problem caused by "shipping" the phono without correctly preparing it for shipment ! You have bent the scan subtract switch that rides under the TMU. See your service manual--straighten out that switch and re-adjust properly. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. I'll check that out. How does that switch stop the mech? Is it getting activated twice somehow so the machine thinks it's at the other end of the rack?

Stephen, Do you have a copy of my "Seeburg Mechanism Guide" ? I covered this in that guide. Ron Rich

Hi Stephen,
I had this problem intermittently on my SPS160 as well.
IIRC, it was the little ramp on the base frame that was bent or "out of adjustment". I think all I did was loosen the screw and slide the ramp as far as it would go towards the outside (away from the center) of the phono.
I'm sure you'll figure this one out in short order. Bill

Bill, Stop and think for a moment-- do you think that ramp can move, or "Un-adjust", all by itself ? Your mechanism, as well as his, has damage to the housing that supports that subtract switch. This MUST be corrected or you risk ruining the nylon motor switch actuator ! Ron Rich

Ron, I didn't remember that being in the guide. I'll go read up on it.
