So I have this SPS160 I've been resurrecting and the A sides are now playing great.
I have had to align the rack, tormat, reversing actuators, play control switch & ramp, readout block, and the transfer arm. Everything detents and plays correctly on the A side.
B sides the transfer arm starts to come up and just stops short of entering the magazine. The motor keeps running and the clamp arm never finishes clamping. At this point the reject circuit no longer works and I can not manually trip the mech with the lever. The only way to get the record out is to power off and manually spin the motor the opposite way until the mech goes back to scan mode (or flip the reverse switch which I try not to do, it always feels like it will break.)
Initially I thought this was just happening at 279 because I was working on all the alignments and kept testing the reverse and select at the spot.
I feel like I read about this in one of Ron's guides or the old Phonoland archive but I can't find it now.

Hi Stephen Check the top clutch bearing clearance. Only thing I can think of as what you have written indicates that the worm gear is rising higher then the clutch member can remain connected to the worm ? --could be the top retaining ring on the worm is missing ?? Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. I'll see if I can follow along what you said and check it next time I'm over there.
