Good Evening all,
I have a SMC1 that managed to stall somewhere around 147 and heat the motor up after it finished playing a round of songs. I left the room and when I returned I could smell something burning. I opened the lid and hit the scan switch on the CPA and it scanned to the left and parked there.
Intermittently, it will not stay parked on the right (179) side. It will stop for a second then return to the left (100) side.
Any idea on where to start?
Thanks, Dalton

Hi Dalton, Start with a can of 20 wt. ND oil and fill the oil cups on that motor--next, reduce the 6/10 amp "motor fuse" to a 1/2 amp fuse. At that point, re-fill the oil cups on the motor, and pray that the motor is OK. Do you have the "Tech Manual". See the schematic for the mech. limit switches-- clean and check the adjustments, per the manual. Do you have any idea as to what caused a stall around that area ? Do you have a Gen 2 MCU installed in it ? If so see the User Guide, and do the diagnostic tests -- I could also sell you a Gen 2 MCU--in about 2 weeks as I have none built now-- Ron Rich

Ron,
Oiled motor
Fuse has been changed per your recommendation in the past
Re oiled after waiting about 10 minutes
Best I can tell the limit switches are set properly according to the manual when mech is in play positions 100 and 179
No clue what caused it to stall there. It did it while I was out of the room. No obstructions that I could see on the track or under the mech, and cable is dressed properly.
I've had the gen 2 MCU for just over 5 years.
I think I remember a more detailed manual that was included when you shipped the MCU, but that's long gone. I downloaded the manual on the CDAdaptor site.
Factory Test 1 gives the following (on average): L>R 32 44 R>L 31 43
Factory Test 2 gives the following: Limit Switch 100: 4 Limit Switch 179: 19

Hi Dalton, I thought you had the Gen-2-- something must have bound in the mechanism, since the motor ran hot ? How did you get it to scan ? Did the display fail to show "error 99" ? Datasync site has the total user guide--same as always been issued. Other paperwork was an installation manual. Did you look at the display--if so what did it show-- is that a "long", record, and did you happen to play both sides ?

Ron,
I got it to scan by hitting the scan switch on the CPA.
No Error 99. The last record I played was short on both sides, about 6 minutes. I was out of the room for about 30, heard it finish playing and thought nothing of it until I returned.
It was showing 0 credits on the display. No record playing or selection number
On the error 99, is it supposed to stop the motor or just show the error? I do have a record that triggers it (currently not loaded) and it will finish playing it then park at the end until I power cycle it or switch it to service mode and back.

Dalton, Well, those motors have a temp rise of about 60 C, so if working, they are normally HOT ! if six minutes on both sides, yes, that can trigger the 99 error, which shuts down motor power--sounds to me that happened, except you said you did not see "error 99" listed on the display ? Contact me off list if you wish to be able to play longer records, back to back. (ronnnrich@yahoo.com) Ron Rich

Ron,
Hot I'm OK with, I could smell it walking into my room though with the lid closed.
The record was about 6 minutes total, 2:40 on the front and 2:50 on the back (Tequila and Train to Nowhere).
When the Error 99 shows up the motor should stop completely, even mid song?
Sorry about all the questions, just want to make sure that nothing major is wrong.

Hi Dalton, Yea--motor is shut off after 9.4 minutes without the Gen 2, seeing a Detent pulse -- You should not have "smelled" anything at that point ??

Ron,
On a long record, mine will continue playing after the "Error 99" appears on the display, reject the record with the "Error 99" still showing, then park at the end, with the "Error 99" still showing at which point it becomes unresponsive until I put it in service mode or cycle the power.
From what you said, that is abnormal behavior correct? I can include a video of the above if you would like.
Thank you
