I have a chance to get a R-80 cheap. worried about the microprosser in it were they relibile or trouble prone? any ideas? Thank you in advance. Norman

Noprman, the R80 is an EM machine with a search unit AKA: pins & coils. It was the last of that type and service procedures are similar to what came before.

There was of course the Rowe Ami R-80S.
Rowe Ami used up the last of their R-80 cabinets and put into them their new system which was their R-81 system that used the basic 1100 mechanism (now called the 1200) with an encoder in place of a search unit. It was fitted with the following boards:-
Mechanism Control 601-06905 Memory Unit 601-07666 DC Converter 301-07541 Selector Logic 601-08060
These are all the same boards used in the 1977 R-81.
In the R-82 & R-83 the Memory unit was replaced by the 301-07855 and these jukeboxes incorporated a Memorec (selection Computer 401-07139)that basically replace the pop meter.
