what’s the trick to getting the upper part open?
I can open the glass with the title strip tray, and open the doors to get to the records, but haven’t found out how to lift the upper part where the tweeters are.
something is binding, i figure there’s a secondary latch somewhere.
alas, the studio where it lives have not any manuals for it. but i’m dying to do them a secret favor and fix up the lighting up there while they are away.
cheers!

Like all Seeburg's, the secret to that is in the "Information & Operation manual" for that model. Going from my great--but not too long memory, there are two screws (thumb screws?) on the side of the speaker compartment that you can see with the lower lid opened fully. Seems to me that you then need to lower the lower id slightly and lift the upper portion at the same time--caution--lid is heavy and awkward at that point. Also take care not to use any lamp over 25 watts in the "Gem" illumination, or you WILL, MELT THE GEM ! Ron Rich

Hi Ron! yes indeedy- i found the spot you mentioned - just one screw, on the right side of the speaker cab, on the bracket that mounts the smaller fluorescent tube. it didn’t look like a release at first, though. kind of looks like another sheet metal-ish screw like all the others. might have been a thumbscrew at one point - who knows - somebody’s been in here screwing around a bit.
for the Gem, all i had was a “23 watt” CF - it looks quite good, could be brighter, but it’s a nice tone for this low-lit studio and should run plenty cool.
cheers, eric
