I have a question for the group. Since these old Jukeboxes have tube amps, has anyone attempted to hook the output of the phonograph to a newer higher end amplifier? Is that possible or would it create problems? I just purchased a Seeburg AY160U Jukebox and it is now up and running electromechanically with the help of Ron Rich who was more than instrumental in assisting me.
I really like the operation of this Jukebox, it is very fun! It seems to be operating perfectly except the amp needs to be Re-capped due to the massive HUM I'm getting when I play a song. I plan to pull the amp out and recap it and maybe put in new wiring throughout as well, depending upon my ambitiousness when I get involved in it.
Understanding that when I get the amp out, it will most likely take me a month if not months (plural) to finish up the project, it would be nice to take the output from the Seeburg phonograph and run it to the Phono input of an amplifier or receiver (tuner/amp) and drive some external speakers while the project is ensuing.
I have a number of amps and receivers laying around to use for this.
Has anyone tried this?
Any suggestions? Would you tell me do this, don't do this, get a life you big loser?? LOL

Rich, Yep--can be done--You will need to convert the input plug to something that fits you amp and you probably won't have the "mute" feature-- IMHO, you should use external speakers only, not the internals. Ron Rich

Thanks Ron. It would be a temporary thing and I'd definitely use external speakers. I have a couple of Seeburg teardrop speakers I could set up. Since I think it will take about a month to re-cap the SHFA-3 amp, it most likely will take 3 to 4 times as long! I'm usually really bad with time frames. With my luck I'll be lucky to get it finished by Christmas. Ha, ha!
Have a good night.
