Hey gang -
Restoring a AMI JAN 200 that was in an R & B Club in the 60’s here in Detroit. After a bunch of work and advice from our global jukebox community, I am in the home stretch.
So here is the last problem in regards to the selection assembly. All letter/number combinations work fine, with the exception of those containing numbers the 1, 2, 8, 9, 0.
So all letters are good - (just have consistent non working numbers are 1, 2, 8, 9 and zero. (Selector wheel just spins, no pins on selector unit wheel are pushed, therefore carousel action when those numbers are used.)
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks -
Greg

Hi Greg,
I would check out the edge connector onto the search unit to make sure that all the tracks are in-line. More than likely there will be a fault on your keyboard or in the wiring between the keyboard and the edge connector.
I have found on a few keyboards that there is no continuity on the normally closed contacts on the keyboard. You had best check the operation of the switches, I normally clean these with tape-head cleaner or Gin or Vodka (I know its a waste but its always on hand in bars).

Success! All numbers are working. Thank you for the advice thus far, Alan and Ron.
Will keep the board posted with my progress - next will be hitting the preamp, (distorted) however the main amp (after tube replacement) sounds great.
Thanks again - Greg.

Greg, Now that it plays the correct numbers--treat yourself to that Gin--Gar-un-tee-ded, to make it sound better ! OK-- all kidding aside--how do you know the main amp sounds great--replacement of the tubes, may have improved the audio, but the distortion can still well be in the main amp. Ron Rich

I plugged a stereo signal directly in the amp, bypassing preamp (amp have separate, unused RCA inputs for some reason) and it sounds crystal clear and full. So I think that narrows problem done to needle, cartridge, wiring or preamp, yes?

Might have replied in the wrong place, so sorry if this is a duplicate. I also have a Jan 200, but when I apply a stereo signal to the RCA jacks on the amp, I lose much of the bass in the music. Plenty of bass when I play records. Is the amp doing something funny with the bass given there is only one woofer? I thought maybe the preamp was putting things out of phase so midrange and high frequencies would be spread out in the bar, and then the amp flips phase again before summing the lows to send to the single woofer as a mono signal? Can someone please verify/explain? I can't go into the preamp inputs because that results in too much bass from the RIAA equalization curve. I'd like to add a wallbox/iPod setup for more selections by utilizing those RCA inputs on the amplifier, but can't figure out why I lose so much low end when I do that.

Yes - there is a inverse phase on the wiring that is designed for optimum sound.
It starts at the small pins on the cartridge itself. (Red and black need to be swapped on the left channel)
