Howdy; We own a 1999 Rowe AMI 100-1 Saturn cd jukebox and would like to connect extension speakers to it. We don't have any 70 volt speakers, however we have a matched pair of Pioneer 50 watt 8 ohm speakers. Can these be used? If so then which terminals should they be connected to? I am concerned about overloading the outputs.

Check the Service Manual-- speaker loads are shown in detail there. Does this amp have the up-dates (fuses) installed ? Ron Rich

Howdy Ron; After checking my repair manual I found two 8 amp fuses on the power amplifier driver board one for each channel. According to the chart for calculating two 50 watt 8 ohm speakers would equal 100 watts combined for both speakers, then subtract that from 250 watts maximum output from amplifier which leaves 150 watts usable for the phonograph speakers. The problem is that the chart shown for calculating speaker wattage does not list 50 watt speakers. The closest choices given are for either 32 watt taps or 57 watt taps. Would it be better to use the lower or higher wattage taps,I wished I had a pair of 70 watt speakers then I wouldn't have to do calculations. "eeeeek!"for

Pete, What are you attempting to do-?? Do you want the phono to be louder then the AUX speakers, or vise versa? Are you attempting to fill a "Dance Hall" wit LOUD music, or just add some sound to another area in the same room, or another adjoining room ? Ron Rich

Ron; We would like to put a pair of extension speakers outdoors near our picnic table mainly for background music. Loud enough to be heard but but not so loud that it would interfere with conversation. Not cranked up for a dance, perhaps a birthday party? Pete.

Hi Pete, Find a pair of "out door" speakers, or better yet, a good pair of 8 ohm indoor speakers, and put in a plug, on each one to remove them when not in use. Leave the juke speaker connections at E1/E7, connect the new speakers to each channel, at E1 ( for each channel--they are NOT common on Rowes !) and E6 Try it-- Tap the internal juke speakers down till you get the ideal balance. (Use 18 gauge wire at least !)--no problem Ron Rich

Hi Ron; I'll try your method using the speakers I already have and see how it works. In the meantime will look for some outdoor speakers. Do you know if there are any with good frequency response? Thanks; Pete

Pete, No--that's the problem-- All "outdoor" speakers sound "tinny" to me--used for voice, they are fine--music, not too great IMHO. Ron Rich

Howdy Ron; I found a matched pair of 3.5 watt 8 ohm speakers. Would that be less work for the amplifier than the two 50 watt 8 ohm speakers? Pete.

Pete- Use whatever sounds best--your amp has plenty of capacity, and tends to be very "forgiving". Ron Rich

Ron; Thanks for that tidbit of info. It gives me great relief knowing that amp is able to handle the load! Thanks again; Pete; Southern Id.
