The volume on my Wulitzer 2104 will suddenly surge. If I turn it down to minimum, it is usually ok for a while. But if I increase it the volume, it will occasionally start booming out at a neighbour-annoying level. Is there anything I can examine myself, or will I need an amplifier expert?

HI Mike If it's been many years since that amp was properly serviced--it probably is time for an "expert" to look at it. You can try re-seating any/all plugs going to the amp, and purchasing a can of Deoxit-5, and "washing" (AS PER the instructions on the can), the volume control, as well as any switches on that amp--it's possible that "dirt" is causing the problem-- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, for such a swift and helpful reply. The amp awas allegedly serviced last year, so first I'll try reseating the plugs. Is it a simple case of taking them out and replugging them?

Yes-sir-- do the same to the tubes, also-as you could have one or more of them not making good connections in their sockets-- - Ron Rich
