Dear Community -
Intro done and already with the first help request a couple of minutes later...
I have a W1900 in pretty stock condition that since some weeks fails to select anything else than Axx.
Selecting A1 picks up the record A1 Selecting B2 picks up the record A2 Selecting C3 picks up the record A3 Selecting D4 picks up the record A4...
Would anyone provide me a hint where to start to check?
I have a copy of the operation/maintenance manual (that I seldom use...).
Many thanks to all and kind regards from Liechtenstein!
Christian

Hi Christian, You are going to need to use that manual--hopefully it's a Service Manual--not an "operation/maint. manual" ? I assume that the phono just started having this problem ? FIRST thing I would do, is pull out the whole "keyboard assembly". On the model 1900, WurliTzer used a piece of insulating "fish paper" glued to the cabinet frame behind the four ABCD buttons. If this is missing,or compromised, that will cause all types of problems, such as this( those buttons short out against that metal !). If that's not the cause, my memory says that there is an "arm" in the junction box that should advance when any other then the A button is selected. This "arm" often gets "dirty" and won't advance-- Hope that helps, Ron Rich

Please apologize the amazing delay but I had that message of yours above waiting an eternity to get one day a look to the selection problem... Now I finally disassembled the keyboard and I can't find any trace of that "fish paper" near to the A-B and C-D switch blocks. Would you please help me to understand where exactly should be? With "cabinet frame" you mean the large casting named "Program Selector Casting" (part 64643)? I have in front of me the page n.30 of the original W1900 Service Manual and I can't find in the exploded view any hint of that insulation... Sorry for bothering you again and for my weak English... Thanks in advance!

Hi Christian, Unfortunately Ron passed away last July. I hope somebody else, maybe a 1900 owner, can answer your question about this "fish paper". I assume it will not be shown in the service manual. I see you're from Liechtenstein. You're welcome to post in our German forum too at forum.jukebox-world.deHildegard

Hi Christian, I don't have a 1900 manual but the general point Ron was making is that there should be insulation to prevent the letter pushbuttons shorting against the metal cabinet. If the original is not there, any durable plastic sheeting glued to the metal frame should be OK.
Norman.

Dear All,
I could finally fix the W1900 suffering the problem of playing only A-records (A1 would play A1, B2 would play A2, C3 would play A3, D4 would play A4).
The root cause was not to be found in the keyboard but in the Electric Selector.
Referring to the original service manual, exploded view in Fig.36 to use the proper nomenclature, I had the "pin" (part nr.16) displaced and not longer engaging / connecting the "spring and plug" (part nr.15) of the "solenoid - driver" (part nr.18) because of having lost the "cotter pin" (part nr.17).
Having repositioned the pin and secured it with a new cotter pin, the Wurli delights us again with B, C & D-records!
Just willing to share the experience here...
A happy & healthy 2023 to everyone!
