I recently purchased a Wurlitzer Americana II 3200. I am hoping to give it as a gift to my father for Christmas to go along with his collection of 45's.
The backstory...
I purchased the unit from a guy who said it was his fathers and became his when he passed. He said his father had it worked on and after that it worked for a long time then it just quit doing anything. The lights would come on but nothing else.
I have the machine at a friends garage to keep it hidden until Christmas which means the only time I can work on it is Friday evenings.
Now the Skinny on it...
I've plugged it up and powered it on. At first it would only light up but after a little wiggling and filing a contactor I happened to see a wisp of smoke from ive got a little action.
I have 2 main problems that I know of right now.
Problem 1
When I press the keypad the letter and number buttons will go down and stay but no pins pop up on the selector and the buttons stay depressed until I hit the cancel button in the center. I can manually raise a pin and the machine will set into motion and load a record. The guy I bought it from said it was set up for free play I will check that tomorrow after looking at the stickies on this site.
Problem 2
If I manually release selector pins the machine will load a record. The tone arm will move toward the record then return to its original position and unload the record not playing it. It will just cycle over and over if I release several selector pins.
I have a manual on the way.
If anyone can point me in the right direction to cure theses issues it would be greatly appreciated.
If there are any parts that are generally the culprit for these problems let me know. With me only being able to work on it 1 evening a week time is of the essence. Any probable fixes that I can go ahead and order and get on the way.
Thanks in advance
P.S. Im no electronics wizard but Im pretty mean with a wrench
