This one had the entire mechanism jammed up and it tripped the breaker. So I cleaned and oiled the gripper assembly, replaced the bushings for the turntable motor and made a quick counterbalance for the tone arm. All in all about 2 hours of work (including digging around the garage for parts) and the unit functions rather nicely for a 42 year old machine. Anyway, my main question is, should there be a magnifying glass or something similar in the window for the selection playing window? I can see it, but I can't see a manufacturer making it so small. Also, if there is supposed to be a magnifying window, is it available and what would it be called?

Hi Clinton, Gottum da "Parts Catalog" ? It should tell if there was a "magnifier" for the selection now playing indicator-- and it's proper name-- as for the availability Might check Victory Glass (see FAQ's) as they purchased all of the original RockOla, 45 rpm parts (they will need a part # to check stock !!) Ron Rich So, What you're telling me is that you and possibly no one else knows if there's supposed to be a magnifying glass in the selection window, or, if there is, the appropriate name for said part and I should buy a $20.00 parts catalog for a unit that has an internal mechanism that I'm already familiar with? Got it! Thank you.

Hi Clinton,
Yes there is a magnifying lense - and that's the name of it. It's a small piece only at the end of the "channel" you look through. I don't have this or a similar model around to compare how small the numbers can be seen. The parts list does not say so either. So check whether there is a lense or if it is missing.
In general I think a parts catalog is very helpful to get proper names of parts and their part numbers. The numbers help to find out if a part was used in just one or more other models. That could help finding needed parts ore easy.
If one is very familiar with jukeboxes (like Ron), worked on them a lot (like Ron) and knows names, details, cross reference (like Ron), or already has similar paper work around, then a service and/or parts manual is not needed any longer. But until then I understand having equivalent paper goods as a part of learning, especially when it comes to trouble shoot faults or to find a missing part.

Hildegard thank you very much, this is very helpful as I didn’t want to buy a manual to find out that there shouldn’t be anything there. I have the manuals for the other 3 units I own, but this particular unit is fairly complete except for the magnifying window that you pointed out is missing.

I scanned the pages from the parts catalog - it's no. 33 in the grafic. So you know what to ask for when getting in touch with for example Victory Glass or any other of the parts dealer.

Well, this helped tremendously and I learned a valuable lesson as well. Once I found out that the piece existed and that it actually was a magnifier I immediately started searching the net for one with very little results, but I found a guy on Ebay selling the complete title strip holder with the magnifier included. I purchased it for $40.00 and instructed the seller to just ship me the magnifier for a discount in the shipping cost. After that, Hildegard posted the part number and I searched for that number which brought me to victory glass who not only had the part, but it was only $1.00! I've been told about victory glass before, but when I searched the site for just the names of parts it didn't yield many results. Anyway, the morel of this comment is even if you have a flawless machine, get the damn parts manual! My haste literally cost me more then buying the actual bound parts book.
