My Wurlitzer 780 is missing all the coin gear (even the magazine switch) ... I'm trying to set it up on free play.
Is there any way to jump the magazine switch at the junction box plug to make the machine think the switch is there?
Thanks!

Hi Keith, Is this a model "780" or a "780E" ? I would assume so--but I dono for sure ? Look at the schematic-- is that a (timed) relay switch ? If so, it's best to replicate that timing, so as not to "fry coils". Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, It's a 780 (not an E). Schematics confuse me ... The longer I look at it the more confused I get. Anything I jumped from this point would just be a guess. And usually when I guess at things they don't turn out for the better. It would probably be better to know for sure which of the 3 pins to jump. Any ideas?

Keith, Follow the schematic to the switch-- Is it a "3 connection" switch, or a "2 connection", switch ?

Keith,
In that case--I dono-- one's NO, other's NC-- so one would need to switch prior to the second one switching-- Ron Rich

Maybe I should rephrase this question: Is there anyway to put a 780 on free play if the coin switch and magazine switch are missing?

Keith, It can be done with a drawback. The Magazine Switch is part of the credit (add and subtract) accumulator. Without it, there is no way to easily control the relationship between records selected and number of records to be played. I strongly urge you to find a Magazine Switch on Ebay or elsewhere. If you cannot locate one, you would have to jump connections in the Magazine Switch socket on the Junction Box. Jumping of pins 1 and 4 will give you "wild" play. The danger in doing that is that after all selection buttons have been released, the mechanism will continue to seek a depressed button and the pin which locks into the star wheel (back of mechanism) could miss the slot and jam the pin into one of the tips of the star wheel. That may not happen at first, but if there is any misadjustment, or lack of free movement due to dry lubrication, it could be a problem. Cheers, Russie

Thanks Russie ... That's what I was afraid of. I'll see if I can locate a magazine switch and then take it from there. Thanks again.
