Since I now have the lights all functional and the memory bank pins getting solidly punched in when a selection is made I now have been working on the keyboard.
The machine sometimes must have the same selection made several times before the search unit springs into action and the wipers get going to find a hot spot for the wipers to locate. Cleaning the keyboard end switch contacts seems to have resolved the problem of the wiper motors not running when a selection is made. Sometimes the number/letter wipers cannot locate a hot spot. I am blaming the dirty individual keyboard contacts for that (not making the "hot Spot" Cleaning those contacts resolves the problem.
I really want to clean those individual selection key contacts thoroughly so the selector unit will get the message of what keys have been depressed. The few I have cleaned have become reliable and make the selection correctly every time. I can "sort of" get to those key contacts for cleaning but I would really like to clean them well. I am a little intimidated on partial disassembly of the keyboard. It doesn't look like I would get into a lot of trouble but I am still "Chicken". Just wondered if anyone had an easier way to get those contacts clean? I've used a strip of a business card and Deoxit for success so far.
I know! I'll get Anna to do the business card contact cleaning thing! She has better eyesight and probably a lot smarter anyway!! If it goes wrong I'll blame her!

If my grea, but not too long memory serves me -- those contacts are just make/break, open bladed switches--if so, IMHO "Deoxit" is not the thing I would use--see FAQ's --cleaning contacts--above ! Ron Rich

Ron, your GREAT and Long Memory is once again correct (as it always is). Yes, Make/Break open blade switches but difficult to get to for me. Contact cleaning reviewed and we'll get it done. Thanks to all who made this web site possible!
