Anyone know where I can find suitable R81 replacement 10" subwolfers? They should be P/N 401-07039. They are measuring at 21 ohms each which is an oddball resistance value. If I replace with new, the best I could do is 16 ohms.
The dual subs in my R81 were made largely of foam that is no longer with us. The main speakers up top are normal 8 ohm units.

Hi JD, 21 ohms is "super-odd ball" Do they have the correct part number on them ? Are you reading that with an Analog, or digital meter ? Can the foam be replaced ? Ron Rich

It is best to replace the foam surrounds on these speakers, the speakers are the original on the jukebox. The reading on the meter is 21 ohms but my guess is that they are 17 Ohms, sadly the 2179 amplifier used a number of speaker configurations dependent on the model of jukebox installed in R-74, R-80, R-80S, CTI-1SC, R-81, R-82.

The 21 ohm measurement was with a Fluke digital multimeter. Speakers have an square magnet and read:
4-007039-01 L-7039-A 719733
I didn't know the foam was replaceable. I will look into that as a cheaper way out. However, I'm still curious as to what the design impedance was on these units. If I don't like the way they sound or I screw up the speakers trying to remove the foam, I'm still back in the same rut I started in.

Hi jd, If it were me, I'd send them to a speaker shop----see the list in our FAQ's -- Ron Rich

Thanks Ron and Alan for the input. I am rebuilding this box for fun. Had some time yesterday to gut it and lay out all the boards along with the mechanism.
Decided to have a go at my speakers armed only with a razor blade and google. Didn't end up too bad. The rest should be downhill from here when my new surrounds com. I have a ton of electronic gremlins to work out so didn't want to make the subs an Odyssey.
Most of my input keys don't work, Much of the display doesn't work (haven't replaced the digits yet). Some of the caps look like they could grenade at any minute. The mechanism is also nearly siezed. Looking at it in detail now its a miracle it was even able to pull a record and play at all when the seller was showing it to me.

If anyone else has my same issue here and has no speaker experience, I found replacing the speaker surrounds is very easy. Used a Cerwin Vega AT-10 kit from Springfield Speaker that came with the pair of surrounds and the glue. Be careful with the razor blade when scraping the cone clean and be careful to center the cone while gluing the surround to the speaker frame.
Very happy with my fresh party red subs.

JD, You should never have used "red"-- that will "color" all of the music, from now on ! Ron Rich
