I would really like to find a 50s HiFi. There are some really cool ones which are way out of my price range, so I would kind of like to find a reasonably priced model. If I would buy one that had some issues are there problems which are difficult to fix?
Is there a single manufacturer which had a really good mechanism? Is one easier to work on than another including the ability to find parts? Same thing with the amplifier?
I am definitely new to this but enjoy a challenge, but know my limits and realize something's are best left to a professional.

Hi Mike, That, IMHO, is almost the often axked--never answered- "chicken-egg" question. Depends a lot on what one is familiar, with ! I worked for/on mostly Seeburgs for most of my life, so I do prefer working on them. All "50's" phono's had problems-- remember what they were designed to do ( If not, reed the "Hi Newbies post" in our FAQ's section ) ? More information and parts are available for Seeburgs, as more Seeburgs were sold ! As for price-- read the "scams" post here(off topic lounge) first before you purchase !! Ron Rich

Thanks again Ron. So I should buy a Seeburg so you can answer all my questions. In all seriousness I appreciate your forum. I would not even attempt what I am doing, if I didn't have a place with many useful threads and advice to point me in the right direction. Cheers, Mike
