Is there an easy way to check the magazine and gripper motor on a RO 435? Both motors seem to turn easily using the knurl on the bottom of the motors. When going thru the operating process I get thru to the write in process but as soon as it goes to the read out and sends power to the motors nothing happens and the fuse blows. Also when I put the service switch to scan nothing happens. Is there a simple process in pulling those motors? New to this and trying to figure out the best ways to approach this.
Thanks Tim J

Hi Tim, Did you just acquire this jukebox, or did the jukebox just "acquire" this problem ? Sounds like the magazine motor is having a problem-- Yes--you could build an external power supply to test these. Do you have the Service Manual ? What "fuse (size & type) blows" ? Yes the motors come out with only three (1/2 or 9/16", head --I think), bolts. I would suggest you pull the magazine motor out and service it. Ron Rich

I acquired this jukebox and am trying to get it working properly and I do have the service manual. The 1.6 amp fuse is the one that is blowing. I will take try and remove the magazine motor and check the brushes.

Hi Tim, Remove the motor, dis-assemble it (remove brushes first!) Clean the commutator, and bearing surfaces, using a "plastic safe-safety solvent"--be sure and pass a business card or a toothpick between the segments, properly, oil the motor with 20 wt. motor oil ONLY ! It most likely will now work--I would also change the brushes while I was at it, if they were under 1/4 inch long. Ron Rich

Hello Ron, I did as you said with both motors. I found broken wires in the gripper motor and re-soldered those. I also had to replace brushes in the magazine motor. Obviously some one before me had put grease into the gear boxes of both motors, I cleaned both motors well using a soft toothbrush and contact cleaner. Things seem to be moving a lot smoother now. I know you said lubricate with 20 weight motor oil, would 3 in 1 oil be an acceptable substitute? Also could I use 3 in 1 oil on the gripper spider to clean and lubricate that? Thanks in advance! Your help has been instrumental in my learning curve for this machine.

Hi Tim, The factory that made the motors greased the gear boxes-- I suggest you replace it. See our FAQ's section on "Jukebox Lubrication---" Ron Rich
