Gentleman,
I am replacing the 2 wire power cord on a W-2810 with a 3 wire power cord. My question, is it ok to attach the the "green" ground wire to the amplifier chassis/ground or should I just cut it off?
If this a question already covered, I apologize, but I did,t see anything about this in the Wurlitzer section.
Thanks,
BJ

Hi BJ, There is some controversy over this-- If you were in California, the electrical code here says that all items sold in this state must be UL approved, and/or "listed". UL will not list anything that originally had a two wire code, if it gets changed to a three wire cord. It MUST be submitted for re-listing, if a three wire cord is added. I don't know what the NJ code says, but to be safe, I use exactly the same cord as originally installed by the factory. (BTW--NEVER "cut" the third wire off, unless you also remove the U ground pin, from the plug !!!) Ron Rich

Ron,
I appreciate your information.
I am inclined to attached the ground wire to the chassis for safety, just wanted to know if there would be an issue.

Hi BJ, My "issue" is, same as UL's, it's not safe! By doing so, you are assuming that it makes it safer--may, or may not be true--that's why UL tests it. If you are worried about safety, I suggest you connect it to a GFIC unit. Ron Rich

Ron,
Thanks again, I'll take your advice and make the new power cord match the old one.
I'll pull the ground pin out of the plug and then cut off the green ground wire. This will give a 2 wire power cord with a molded 2 prong plug.
