Hi David, Didja read the "Hi newbies" post in our FAQ's section-- If you have the manual, and/or, can describe your phono in terms we can understand, it may be an easy fix ? With NSM phono's, generally speaking, they are ID'ed via the "ES" number, although model number may help too -- . Ron Rich

Error 01 usually means you have an invalid entry in programming location P01.

It says in the manual that if err 1 occurs, the phonograph programme has to be checked and corrected as needed. I don't know how to check the phonograph programme and correct it. Please can you explain in simple, but more detailed, terms what I should do or is it a professionals job? Thanks

I managed to run the P1 programme and the screen now shows 0.00 0 instead of err 1 but when I go to add credits using the red button on the circuit board on the right hand side, the first three numbers flash brightly and the credits number flashes dimly, but the credits still remain at zero. Is there another way I can add credits? Do I need to do something else?
Alternatively, is it possible to programme the jukebox to take new UK 10 pences so that I can check that it works and then use it again.
Thanks for your help

Hi David, I assume that the red button was your method of adding credits when your jukebox was working? The red button is probably aligned to one of the coin channels and if that channel is now set for zero pulses, then you will get no credits - check C4 to C7. I'm not sure if I've ever worked on an ES NSM (and if I have, it's been a fair while since!) because I found a post from another forum by John Robertson (Flippers) that I had saved that says you cannot set ES to freeplay like you can on ESII with a jumper wire.
You may be able to adapt (it won't be programming) your coin mech to accept modern coins but TBH, I think you might find it a lot easier to search out a few coins that the coin mech was originally built to accept.

Hi David, I don't know sources in the UK--You might check our FAQs section, for a proper "coin acceptor", for your phono. Most of the jukebox makers purchased coin equipment from outside sources--which varied from country to country. Ron Rich

Hi Ron, I suspect it will be fitted with an electronic coin validator - hence suggesting that it might be a better option to find some of the coins it was originally designed for! I don't know about your quarters and dimes but our coins seem to keep getting messed with! A few years ago, I modified an old slug rejector for someone on a Wurlitzer 2410 to accept current UK 10p coins - then they changed the coins' metal composition and the newer ones kept getting stuck in the magnet!

Thanks all for your replies.
I have checked C4 to C7 using the programming guide (given above) and they were all set to zero so I changed them. All went well apart from C7 when it wanted a 5 digit number and would not progress until it got one when a 4 digit number was given. I put in a 0 at the end to complete it but jukebox is not working correctly. I then checked C0 to C3 and they were set to zero so I input the correct figures to these and it is now showing the cost of each play and I was able to add some credits using the red button (mentioned above). However, when I input a number to play a record, it only allows me to type in two digits rather than 3. When I type in the third digit, it just changes the second.
I plan to do P1 again and then input everything from C0 to C7 but have one question about C7 which seems to be the relevant programme change for free plays which I want to make sure I have input everything correctly, but I did double check at the time. It says "The free play or credit button is wired in parallel to this channel which is why you must push it five times to get credit. Press the finger button again to advance to step C7". Is the "push it" the finger button or the red button for credits? Last time I pressed both but this could be my problem.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi David, Just a guess here-- It sounds as if the battery is on it's way to the grave. You might try changing it, prior to doing any thing else ?? Ron Rich

Hi David, I can see that if I had read the guide I would have seen that the red button is wired to C7! You do need to enter a 5 digit code when you reprogram. It's my understanding that if you enter 00101 in location C7, then you would get a credit every time you push the red button. If you enter 00501 as per the guide example, you need to push the red button five times for a credit.

Thanks very much for your help, Norman and Ron. I put in the new code for credits and double checked everything else and worked and my jukebox is now FREE playing. I really appreciate the time you have taken to guide me through the process and I plan to make a donation to a charity to show this appreciation. Norman, as you are in the UK, would you like to suggest the UK charity I donate to?
Thanks again both
