Hello,
A couple years back I traded an arcade game for a Rock-Ola 432 Jukebox. The backstory is that this machine had been in storage for years when the vendor changed over to CDs. Here's the rundown on the condition, what I've replaced and where I'm at now. The jukebox does power up and lights up. The gripper motor was in pieces in the bottom and there was a note scribbled on the back of a calendar sheet from Feb 25 1992: Contacts good - Amp good - Needs new gripper gearbox
I checked the gear mech and found it binding as well as a gear cracked - I replaced the gripper mechanism and installed another gripper motor.
At the time I had the gripper mechanism in the position of having a record playing. When I powered up, the turntable started to turn. I put a record on and it played! The amp sounds very weak, but it played the record at the correct speed. When the record was over, it just sat there. I check the switch under the arm and it tested okay. I did notice that the cancel switch did nothing while pressed. (reverse gripper relay?). I moved the gripper arm manually (turning the knob on the gripper motor with it off) and positioned the gripper arm to go back to the record bin. (start position) I powered up the jukebox, coined up credits, and made a selection. Nothing happened. The buttons stay pressed down. I do have switch 1 on the gear mech cammed out in start position. (The record basket will scan)
I do have the manual for this, but I don't understand relays and what-not. I've really always been a plug and play guy and have limited knowledge of circuitry. I'd appreciate any guidance. Thanks,
Dave

Dave, FIRST, turn power OFF, and check fuses, with a meter, or lamp-- for size and correct type. If no fuses on that model, check CB's--see if one is "open". Ron Rich

Thanks Ron, and thank you for the membership. It does have glass fuses and they all test good. If I make a selection and shut it off, the buttons do reset. So that actuator(?) that clears the selection does work. I can scan the basket. If I leave the basket not in the home position and power off, when I power it back on, the basket does rotate to home position. I may hand rotate the gripper mechanism back to the position of playing a record and make sure the turntable still rotates.

Hi Dave, Yes--BUT, are they all the correct size and type ?? If so, get your manual out and check voltages-- Is the write-in motor getting (25vac)power, when buttons are locked down ? Is it sized up ? Ron Rich

Thanks for the guidance, Ron. Much to my surprise, the write in motor is gone! I am trying to locate another one online. Are write in motors from that era pretty much the same? Will a motor from a model 434 work on my 432? Illustration wise it looks close in the schematics.
Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, I am not sure if it will, or won't-- Axk the suppliers listed on this page, or look at the two parts books -- My --GUESS-- is that they are interchangeable ? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On your Aviator-- Is that a current Sinclair product ? I have only seen Sinclair gas stations on "road trips", but all of a sudden a station near my brother's house that has been re-branded a million times, is now a Sinclair -- Ron Rich

Ron,
That avatar is from a Disney movie: Cars. lol. I located and installed a write-in motor this afternoon. I can make a selection now and the write-in motor does it's job. I had replaced the gripper on this machine but did not have the exact model available to me. It had a different cam switch setup so I used the cam gear off the original. I believe now I have some adjustment off on the cam gear. I made some adjustments the gripper proceeded to pick up (I have all my records out for now). It did move to the position of the record being down but the gripper arm did not stay level and drooped. I kept the arm record arm from contacting the turntable and move the arm inward to simulate the record being over. The gripper did reverse to pick up the record but binded before returning to the basket. I shut it off and backed the gripper out of the bind with the knob on the gripper motor. I pulled the gripper arm out slightly where it could clear the stop and powered it back on and it returned to the basket.
Dave
P.S. For anybody searching for future reference: I used a 434 model write-in motor. I just had to remove the bracket on the motor and reinstall it to the other predrilled holes (dropping motor lower on the bracket itself) for proper clearance and gear contact.

Hi Dave, here is a youtube clip which covers the stripdown of the gripper arm assembly, and highlights some common faults. It may be of some help. Gary www.youtube.com/watch?v=toWOMZ8tH7A
