Hi everyone! I'm new to the board and new to jukeboxes. I'll state the main problem and then for those interested, list more information after. Hoping someone can help.
Rockola 496 signature model.
When the carousel rotates, the correct record number will not show in the selection area of the display. This is true in both operate and scan mode. The display will show either 100 or 200, dependent on the switch that activates when the carousel passes its home position. The number flickers really fast which is caused by the number trying to change but resetting to 100 or 200. The optical board is flicking its light correctly. I removed the optical board and just for the heck of it, tested the resistors. I couldn't test anything else on board so I put it back in. For about 1 minute the numbers on the display were correct when in scan mode. While working you would see the number go up but then start to jump back to the beginning for no reason. This would get worse and worse until it would only show 100 or 200. I then disconnected the main cable to the mechanism board and the same thing happened. It would start working perfectly but only for a minute before the numbers couldn't count up anymore. What could be causing this?
Some background...
I bought this used with the understanding that the controller system (computer) was broken. The lights on the controller and display were all over the place and none of the mechanisms worked. I found I could make all the mechanisms move by manually moving the gripper arm to the play position. Amp, platter, carousel, etc., all working. I found someone that use to work for Rockola and sent my controller to them. I was told that about 6 various chips were fixed and the battery upgraded. The guy said it was fixed and it was tested in another jukebox. When I got it back nothing worked until I manually moved the gripper again. Then it came to life and the computer seemed to work as I could select different menus and the display showed "100" in the hits area. There were two issues. One was the problem explained in my first paragraph and the second problem was that the computer would sometimes go back into initialization mode and the record would spin down. I cleaned all the contacts on all connectors. This seemed to fix the problem with the controller jumping back to the initialization screen but the record selection numbers were still not correct. Then for some reason the controller started to act up. The controller would go back and forth between initialization and default. Nothing was working and the display was showing random symbols. I emailed and texted the guy who made the repair to ask some questions and he wouldn't return my messages. I was very surprised by this as he seemed like a nice guy. I decided to give up for a few days because of the frustration so I left the machine alone. I found another controller online so I ordered it in the hopes that it is working and that the issues I'm having are with the current controller. It's a crap shoot. I don't have the new controller yet. Today I decided to turn it back on and test some things. For some reason the controller seems to be working and I'm back at my current problem listed at the beginning.
Thanks for any help or direction!
