Hi, Could someone please tell me what size fuses go in the 2 small fuse holders on an AMI "A" Jukebox?

Hi Keith, The manual/schematics should state that ? If not, what circuit(s) are they in ?? Ron Rich

Hi Keith,
My memory says that they're 8/10 amp fuses. You could use a 1 amp fuse and probably be okay.

Bill, Keith, Do not go by that --My memory says ONE, is an 8/10 SB fuse, but the other is a high number--mains fuse ? See the manual to be sure ! Ron Rich

I found these values in a list of mine. Main: 10A For Mechanism: 800 mA For Credit Unit: 500 mA Unfortunately I can't find out again where I got the information from. Probably from a customer with such a model.
The service manual doesn't menion the values but refers to the printing on the junction box.
I don't know whether these are slo blo or quick blow.
In model AMI C the 800mA and 500 mA fuses are slo blow while the higher rated one is quick blow.
Maybe that helps.

Hi Hildegard, I am about 90 % sure that info is correct-- including the info on fast/slow blow. In later models, the 8/10 SB size was called out as a 1 Amp, slo-blo. Ron Rich

I looked on my original Model A junction box and the large screw-in fuse says 10 amp below it. However, there is no printing on the box for the two small fuses on top. However, in the rather lame service manual, in the trouble-shooting section near the back they discuss the symptoms when the 10 amp fuse is blown. AND they show the symptoms when the 8/10 amp fuse is blown - inoperative mechanism. AND they have listed a 1/2 amp fuse for coin gear credit issues. So Hildegard is correct on all counts.
Per Harold Hagen's Dr. Know-It-All AMI book, the 8/10 fuse is supposed to be a slow-blow MDL type fuse, not an AGC fast-blow. He says that the AGC fuse may blow even if the circuit is otherwise okay.

Thank you Ron and Bill for confirming the values and charcteristics. If I recall right the discussion about the low rated fuse which blows too fast we had in our forum too some time ago. It was for a later model, probably AMI I to Continental era.

Hi All, Hi All, On later power supply boxes, AMi added a primary 2 amp FB, fuse inside the box ( I add it outside, for ease of replacement). They also changed the 25 VAC, 8/10 amp fuse to a 1 amp SB fuse, at that time. I suggest one should at least add the primary fuse, on all of these units-- Ron Rich

Thanks guys for chiming in on this ... I happened to stumble on an online site that says the fuses are ... Main 10a, Mech 8/10 and credit unit is 1/2 ... so you were all correct.
Though it doesn't show on the junction box itself, it does mention the fuse sizes in the manual's trouble shooting section and what to look for when the specific fuse blows. Problem solved ... Thanks again for the help!

Where do you add the primary 2 amp fuse in the junction box ? What is the purpose ?

Hi Robby, It was added to the line (mains), input. It's purpose is the same as are all fuses--to protect --in this case the transformer. Ron Rich
