Hi, I have a NSM Prestige E180 and there is a problem playing side B on the records. It seems that the arm is not going across to play the B side if I put the arm across to the Bside and then select it is fine but if I then select an A side the arm will automatically go across to play but if i then select a B track it will not return. Any help would be appreciated I have cleaned everything and all looks okay so am I missing something.
Thanks in advance for any assistance

Hi Mick, Of course, you're "missing something"-- What, exactly, I dono, as I am not familiar with NSM's- I would think, you could watch it transfer the cradle from the B side, to the A side, and see what moves it that way ? IF, as they mostly did, they copied Seeburg, there is a cam follower that can be "bypassed" if the cradle does not need shifting-- typically, in Seeburgs, that have not needed to shift, in years, this gets "dirty", and misses the cam, when this problem occurs -- Ron Rich

Rich, Thanks for your fast response it is much appreciated. Yes there is a cam on the back of the unit but I cant see what actually operates it? It all seems mechanical with no gears etc. What operates the cam on the Seeburg.

Hi Mick, No problem--you can always "edit" your posts--I do all the time, when I catch an "error" --LOL-- On the Seeburg, there is a cam "follower" that pushes the cradle from side to side--. Cam's direction pushes the follower as determined by it's direction. Ron Rich

Hi Mick, i'm not sure if your sorted with this fault but i can help. If you remove the mech from the rack and look at the front below those two switches you will see two springs on a bar and what looks like a roller. Use long nose pliers to gently prise off the two springs from the roller without damaging the springs. Now using the pliers again, hold the shaft with the roller on and gently prise up out of the plastic holder. Now you can pull off the roller and clean it along with the shaft, even when clean it may feel tight so you could ream out the hole slightly or make sure it's lubricated with light oil from now on. When your reassembled look at the block that pivots the tone arm and make sure it glides accross easily and also check the metal hook underneath for sliding without catching, it bends easily. The only other thing to hold the tone arm back in A or B until it sets down on the record are the two springs on the base of the arm, these must not be stretched or bent and set right otherwise i would get new ones. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Jukeymart, I have just been to repair a prestige jukebox which wasn't playing B sides and your advice was spot on! Thank you so much... this saved me a lot of time. The area you suggested to remove and clean was indeed very stuck and after removing and cleaning / lubricating, it worked very well. Thanks again

I'm quite impressed that you have fixed it, but I'm very impressed that you did it by searching the forum! Jukeymart hasn't logged in to the forum for nearly three years.
