Dad and I have been restoring a none working 1947 Wurlitzer 1015 jukebox where we had to replace the Worm Gear Assembly. We put the assembly back together and everything seems to be working. However, If I select record #15 it automatically play #13. It will continue to play 13 until I give the selector cam a little nudge then it will play 15 or the record selected. If I select a record say 6 and the selector cam is at record 15 I have to nudge it again then it will whip around to record 6 and play. From what I have observed, whenever the selector cam is at the bottom ie record 13 it will not move to the next selection until I give it a nudge once or twice depending on what record is selected.

Question is why do I need to manual nudge the selector cam. We have been reading the manual, but can not understand why we have to nudge the selector cam when the point of the cam is in the downward position ie record 13

My GUESS would be, if only that one "sticks"-- lack of proper lubrication, or a "burr" somewhere ? Ron Rich

There are several things which can cause that symptom. As Rich said, first make sure it is lubricated everywhere in the selection system (pay particular attention to lubrication and cleanliness on the main shaft that goes up through the center of the record stack pivot point and inside the heart wheel). The arm that moves the selector pawl up and down at the back of the record stack has a brass roller on a pin that rides inside the heart wheel. Check it to be sure is does not have a flat spot and that it turns freely. Rarely, the heart wheel may go bad by developing a hump inside the groove that stops the roller from rolling freely on the uphill ramp. Also check that the pawl that runs up and down in the slots at the back of the record stack is fairly centered in the slots. Check the brake unit, (the part that has a leather strap around it) to be sure it is well lubricated. Check its spring tension also. There should be enough tension on the wheel that the brake runs on to prevent the wheel from rotating back in the wrong direction when the segment gear returns to its rest position, yet loose enough to allow the wheel to rotate freely. Check the selection pins on the memory coil unit, to be sure #13 returns fully upon playing that selection. Also check the #13 tray to be sure it returns all the way to the rest position. There may be other things that could cause the issue. Generally, a cleaned and lubricated mechanism should work freely. Cheers, Russie
