As per the last thread I started here (so far no luck on snagging a spare 532), I like to have spare parts for darn near everything. This is the result of an annoying circumstance that seems to follow me in whatever I do, i.e., things break at the worst possible time. Right now I am using a stanton 500AL II cartridge (and yes, I have a spare stylus) in my 2150. I've been looking on ebay fairly regularly for well over a year and haven't found anything yet (too used or too pricey). I've looked at the 500V3 as well but, again, either too used, too pricey and already mounted to headshells. So, any thoughts on a good cartridge that has a spherical stylus and not too light tracking that holds the groove well considering a fair % of warped records? Shure M35X? I'd like to be below $50, if possible Thanks

So, Brooks, what is wrong with the 500Al-? That later version has the same body as the V-15 AT series that I've used in Wurlitzers (and nearly everything else). They were designed for frantic radio Dj's while still have high quality output.

The only thing wrong with them is that they are unobtanium... I just can't find any of them...or they are priced well over $50.00. Hence, I was looking for an equivalent cartridge that might be more common and, therefore, less expensive

I was asking what was wrong with the 500AL you are already using. I don't see any advantage in replacing it....maybe there is some problem you can cite and we can fix. Rob

Yeah, I got that part Ron. But since the cart body itself is very unlikely to "break" it seemed that Brooks was looking for some other type of cart as a possible sub.
A far better use of that money is to get another spare stylus -or two. In spite of all the talk of a vinyl "revival" the availability of --good-- styli is actually diminishing and we are slowly being left with either "crosley" junk or high-end choices.

Ron is correct. I just like having a spare in case there is some catastrophic failure of the cartridge. I already have a spare stylus; however, I may take Rob's advice and get another one while they are readily available. Heck, even Amazon has them. (the Amazon cartridge is only $11 and made by Phanstiehl so I assume it is a decent replacement) I'll just keep my fingers crossed that one will eventually appear, like the elusive 532 amp. The hunt is half the fun anyhow. Thanks Brooks
